The Acidities of Nucleophilic Monofluoromethylation Reagents: An Anomalous alpha-Fluorine Effect

Hanliang Zheng et al.

Summary: This study reveals that despite the expected enhancement of acidity by fluorine on alpha-C-sp3-H, in reality, it often weakens the acidity of most (phenylsulfonyl)methane derivatives. Density functional theory computations were able to reproduce and provide insight into this anomalous alpha-fluorine effect, correlating the C-H pK(a) values of (phenylsulfonyl)methane derivatives with Mayr's nucleophilicity parameter (N) of the corresponding carbanions.

Palladium-Catalyzed Modular and Enantioselective cis-Difunctionalization of 1,3-Enynes with Imines and Boronic Reagents

Qing He et al.

Summary: In this study, a palladium(0) complex was used to mediate the unprecedented intermolecular coupling reactions of 1,3-enynes and N-sulfonylimines, resulting in the construction of enantioenriched all-carbon tetra-substituted alkene derivatives. By forming η(2)-complexes with the alkene moiety of 1,3-enynes, the palladium(0) acted as a pi-Lewis base catalyst to increase the nucleophilicity of the alkyne group, allowing for an enantioselective attack on the imines based on the principle of vinylogy. Additionally, a reductive coupling of 1,3-enynes and imines was achieved using formic acid as a hydrogen transfer reagent under palladium(0) catalysis.

Asymmetric Synthesis of Fluorinated Allenes by Rhodium-Catalyzed Enantioselective Alkylation/Defluorination of Propargyl Difluorides with Alkylzincs

Jia Sheng Ng et al.

Summary: This study revealed that the reaction of propargyl difluorides with alkylzincs catalyzed by a chiral diene/rhodium complex can yield axially chiral fluorinated allenes with high enantioselectivity (up to 99% ee). In the catalytic cycle, a key step involves the selective elimination of one of the enantiotopic fluorides at the beta-position of an alkenyl-Rh intermediate, which is generated by regioselective addition of R-3-Rh onto the triple bond of the starting difluorides.
