Advances and perspectives in chemical isotope labeling-based mass spectrometry methods for metabolome and exposome analysis

Shuo Gao et al.

Summary: Metabolomics and exposomics play important roles in the study of human health and diseases. The combination of chemical isotope labeling (CIL) and mass spectrometry (MS) not only improves sensitivity but also provides benefits in terms of selectivity, accuracy, omics coverage, and analysis throughput. MS-based CIL techniques have been increasingly used in metabolome and exposome analysis.

Quantitative analysis of the relationship of derivatization reagents and detection sensitivity of electrospray ionization-triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry: Hydrazines as prototypes

Hua-Ming Xiao et al.

Summary: Chemical derivatization-assisted electrospray ionization-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (ESI-QqQMS) is an efficient tool for quantifying low-molecular-weight molecules. This study utilized quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling to investigate the relationship between modifying group structures in derivatization reagents and the detection sensitivity of their derivatives during ESI-MS detection. The study found that several molecular descriptors related to hydrophobicity, electronegativity, and molecular shape were correlated with the detection sensitivity of derivatives induced by different modifying groups.
