New physics searches at kaon and hyperon factories

Evgueni Goudzovski et al.

Summary: Rare meson decays are valuable tools for investigating both heavy and light new physics, with the use of kaons being particularly advantageous due to their small decay widths and large datasets. Hyperon decay measurements also provide complementary information. This article summarizes the relevant phenomenological models and current status of searches in both kaon and hyperon decay channels. It identifies new search strategies for unexplored signatures and highlights the potential for significant advances in exploring light dark sectors with improved sensitivities from current and future experiments.

Lattice calculation of the short and intermediate time-distance hadronic vacuum polarization contributions to the muon magnetic moment using twisted-mass fermions

C. Alexandrou et al.

Summary: In this study, we calculate the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment in the short and intermediate time-distance windows. The lattice determination is based on the gauge ensembles produced by the Extended Twisted Mass Collaboration (ETMC) with Nf = 2 + 1 + 1 flavors of Wilson-clover twisted-mass quarks. We find consistency with some experimental results in the short-distance window, but deviations in the intermediate window.

A novel determination of the Bc lifetime

Jason Aebischer et al.

Summary: A novel method is proposed in this paper to reduce the current theory uncertainties in determining the lifetime of B(c) meson, tau B-c. The method eliminates the leading contributions from calculations by taking the difference of B-c, B, and D meson decay rates, which are known to have significant scale and scheme dependence. The uncertainties in the proposed determination of tau B-c are analyzed, and improvements are suggested. The predicted value of tau B-c from the method is found to be in tension with experimental determination, and several explanations, including underestimation of uncertainties, duality violation, and new physics, are considered. The paper also discusses quantitative evidence suggesting that the method is affected by duality violation in the large mass operator product expansion used for calculating nonleptonic decay rates of B and D mesons.

Windows on the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment

C. T. H. Davies et al.

Summary: Accurately determining the contribution of hadronic vacuum polarization (HVP) to the muon's anomalous magnetic moment is crucial for understanding any discrepancies between the Standard Model prediction and experimental results. This study investigates the use of lattice QCD to calculate HVP, but faces challenges due to increasing statistical and systematic errors. By limiting the lattice contributions to a specific time window, the results can be significantly improved while still capturing a large fraction of the HVP. The findings suggest that this approach could allow for rigorous tests of lattice and experimental results in the future.

From B-meson anomalies to Kaon physics with scalar leptoquarks

David Marzocca et al.

Summary: This work investigates the possible connections between B-meson anomalies and Kaon physics observables, specifically considering combined solutions involving singlet and triplet scalar leptoquarks. By assuming a specific flavor structure for the leptoquark couplings based on a minimally broken U(2)(5) flavor symmetry, a clear connection is established between these two classes of observables. The results indicate that the model is already somewhat constrained by the bound on B(K+ -> pi(+)nu nu) from NA62, but the present limits on B(K-L -> mu(+)mu(-)) and mu -> e conversion in nuclei can still be satisfied. The study also explores viable values for the observables under relaxed flavor assumptions.

Leading hadronic contribution to the muon magnetic moment from lattice QCD

The developed methods using ab initio quantum chromodynamics and quantum electrodynamics simulations favor experimentally measured values over those obtained using dispersion methods, with potential for increased precision as computer technology advances.
