Premium versus entry-level hearing aids: using group concept mapping to investigate the drivers of preference

Hasan K. Saleh et al.

Summary: This study utilized group concept mapping to investigate the difference in outcome measures and drivers of user preference between premium and entry-level hearing aids. The results identified important non-signal-processing factors that significantly influenced preference for a premium hearing aid over an entry-level one, such as smartphone application-based user-controlled settings, the ability to stream calls and music, and convenience features like accessory compatibility.

Prediction of successful hearing aid treatment in first-time and experienced hearing aid users: Using the International Outcome Inventory for Hearing Aids

S. S. Houmoller et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the impact of various clinical factors on International Outcome Inventory (IOI-HA) scores and to determine if there was an improvement in scores when replacing hearing aids for experienced users. Additionally, the overall effectiveness of hearing aids was evaluated using the IOI-HA. The results showed significant associations between factors such as degree of hearing loss, word recognition score, motivation, HA usage time, tinnitus, asymmetry, and sex with total IOI-HA scores, indicating the potential to identify patients who need extra attention to become successful HA users.

Effect of Hearing Aid Technology Level and Individual Characteristics on Listener Outcome Measures

Patrick N. Plyler et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the impact of hearing aid technology levels on listener outcomes. Results showed that premium devices significantly improved noise acceptance, satisfaction in large groups, and performance in demanding listening environments. Individual characteristics such as noise acceptance and listening demands should be considered when comparing hearing aid technology levels.
