American Sign Language Words Recognition of Skeletal Videos Using Processed Video Driven Multi-Stacked Deep LSTM

Sunusi Bala Abdullahi et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a method to enhance the feature vector of dynamic sign words using knowledge of hand dynamics, and classify them based on motion patterns. It is found that some double-hand dynamic sign words have ambiguous or similar features in hand motion trajectory, leading to classification errors. Therefore, the similar/ambiguous hand motion trajectory is determined based on the approximation of a probability density function, and the extracted features are enhanced using maximal information correlation. The proposed method outperforms conventional methods on challenging ASL, SHREC, and LMDHG datasets.
