Formation of aggresomes with hydrogel-like characteristics by proteasome inhibition

Seo Hyeong Park et al.

Summary: Spatiotemporal sequestration of misfolded proteins forms aggresomes, which are large, juxtanuclear, membrane-less inclusions. The molecular mechanisms of aggresome formation, clearance, and pathophysiology are being investigated, but the biophysical properties of aggresomes remain poorly understood.

An integrative review of nonobvious puzzles of cellular and molecular cardiooncology

Pawel Uruski et al.

Summary: Oncologic patients undergo surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy as the major treatment types. However, these non-surgical cancer treatments may potentially impact the cardiovascular system. Emerging as a clinical subdiscipline, cardiooncology primarily focuses on linking the adverse effects of cancer therapy with the quality of life of cancer survivors and their increased morbidity and mortality. The cellular and molecular determinants of these relations are still not well understood due to unsolved paths and contradicting findings in the literature. In this article, the authors provide a comprehensive view of the cellular and molecular etiology of cardiooncology, particularly focusing on intracellular processes in cardiomyocytes, vascular endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells treated with ionizing radiation and anti-cancer drugs.
