Open and sustainable: An emerging frontier in innovation management?

Jaan-Pauli Kimpimaki et al.

Summary: The paper explores the theoretical connections between sustainability and open innovation, finding that while approximately nine percent of the sample articles discuss aspects of sustainability, there is a lack of institutionalized use of sustainability-related keywords and a unified approach in the literature. The study contributes by shifting the focus from an organizational-level inquiry to a multi-level system understanding, presenting a framework for open and sustainable forms of innovation across individual, organizational, city, and regional levels.

Multi-actor co-innovation partnerships in agriculture, forestry and related sectors in Europe: Contrasting approaches to implementation

Andrew F. Fieldsend et al.

Summary: Innovation is crucial for agriculture, forestry, and related sectors to enhance productivity, sustainability, and resilience. This research provides a framework for analyzing co-innovation processes and presents a multidimensional conceptual typology of co-innovation activities based on 200 partnerships involving farmers and foresters in Europe. The results indicate that the effectiveness of co-innovation can vary depending on contextual factors, and no single ideal type is inherently superior but may be more suitable in specific circumstances. This typology can assist policymakers and program managers in developing targeted interventions to accelerate innovation based on actor needs and local conditions.
