Research on the Non-Point Source Pollution Characteristics of Important Drinking Water Sources

Lei Hou et al.

Summary: The contamination of freshwater resources by non-point source pollution has become a significant issue in China. This study investigates the pollution sources and characteristics of non-point source total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) in the Huangqian Reservoir watershed. The results show that the main sources of pollution are rural life and farmland, and the pollution is primarily concentrated in the water source protection area of the reservoir. The study suggests that controlling rural domestic sewage and waste is more effective than agricultural fertilizer control in improving water quality.

Development and application of a hybrid long-short term memory - three dimensional variational technique for the improvement of PM2.5 forecasting

Xingcheng Lu et al.

Summary: A new method combining a 3D numerical model with 3D-VAR and LSTM techniques was developed to improve PM2.5 forecasting. Results showed that this hybrid method reduced the root-mean-square error and normalized mean error by 29.3% and 33.3% in validation stations, respectively.

Forecasting Abrupt Depletion of Dissolved Oxygen in Urban Streams Using Discontinuously Measured Hourly Time-Series Data

Young Woo Kim et al.

Summary: This study developed 24-hour forecasting models for DO concentrations in three urban streams in South Korea, accurately capturing the timing and magnitude of DO depletion. Important forecasting variables included cumulative precipitation, water temperature, and DO concentrations at the lower reaches.

New methods based on back propagation (BP) and radial basis function (RBF) artificial neural networks (ANNs) for predicting the occurrence of haloketones in tap water

Ying Deng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of different prediction models for estimating the occurrence of haloketones in water supply systems. The results showed that RBF and BP artificial neural networks outperformed linear/log linear models in terms of prediction ability, with RBF ANN demonstrating the capability to recognize complex nonlinear relationships between haloketones occurrence and water quality.

Modeling and investigating the effect of the LID methods on collection network of urban runoff using the SWMM model (case study: Shahrekord City)

Majid Omidi Arjenaki et al.

Summary: In this study, the SWMM model was used to simulate the surface runoff collection network of Shahrekord city, and three methods (green roof, permeable pavement, rain barrels) were applied in 14 selected sub-catchments. Results indicated that the green roof method was the most effective in reducing both the volume and peak discharge of runoff.
