Excellent Optoelectronic Properties and Low Contact Resistance of Graphene/MoS2 Heterostructure Optoelectronic Devices: First- Principles Calculation and Experimental Verification

Panke Li et al.

Summary: 2D materials play a crucial role in electronics and optoelectronic devices. Understanding the charge transport behavior at the interfaces between 2D materials and electrodes is important for the development of integrated circuits and optoelectronic fields. This study investigates the charge transport barriers at the Au/MoS2 and graphene/MoS2 interfaces and fabricates three different optoelectronic devices. The graphene/MoS2/graphene device shows excellent optical response and ultrafast response time, while the graphene/MoS2/Au device exhibits excellent rectification behavior and optoelectronic response. These findings open up opportunities for highly sensitive and energy-efficient photodetectors.

Effects of substrate on swift heavy ion irradiation induced defect engineering in MoSe2

S. X. Zhang et al.

Summary: This study presents the characteristics of defects in MoSe2 sheets on different substrates caused by SHI irradiation, and investigates the role of the substrate in defect engineering of MoSe2. The findings provide fundamental insights into the influence of the substrate on defect engineering in TMDC materials, and offer a practical guide for choosing specific parameters of irradiated TMDC materials.

Unrecovered ion-irradiated damage after thermal annealing in graphene field effect transistors

J. Zeng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of irradiation on graphene-based devices and the evolution of defects in device materials after thermal annealing. The results show that irradiation with swift heavy ions deteriorates the electrical properties of graphene, while thermal annealing improves the carrier mobility to some extent. However, the defects in graphene are irreparable after annealing. Additionally, high temperature annealing further damages the graphene structure.

Competition of Photo-Excitation and Photo-Desorption Induced Positive and Negative Photoconductivity Switch in Te Nanowires

Yanling Yin et al.

Summary: Tellurium nanowires (Te NW) exhibit positive and negative photoconductivity depending on the environmental humidity. The competition between adsorbed water molecules and photo-desorption is responsible for the switch between positive and negative photoconductivity. Understanding the charge transfer processes between water molecules and Te nanowires provides a route to control carrier densities and design novel optoelectronic nanodevices.

MoS2 Based Photodetectors: A Review

Alberto Taffelli et al.

Summary: Photodetectors based on MoS2 have shown remarkable characteristics in the visible spectral range, but can be further improved by coupling with other materials such as nanoparticles or quantum dots for enhanced response in the near ultraviolet and infrared spectral range. Additionally, heterostructures with different materials like other TMDs or graphene can speed up the response time of the photodetectors through the creation of built-in electric fields for faster charge carriers transport. Perovskites have been exploited to enhance device stability as passivation layers and electron reservoirs.

Exciton Transitions in Monolayer WS2 Activated by Swift Heavy Ion Irradiation

Shengxia Zhang et al.

Summary: The emergence of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) has provided a favorable platform for exploring novel optoelectronic device applications and quantum phenomena. By using swift heavy ion (SHI) irradiation, the exciton transition in monolayer WS2 can be fine-tuned, revealing different mechanisms for trion-to-exciton transition in the as-transferred WS2 monolayer and exciton-to-trion transition in the as-grown WS2 monolayer. The study also indicates that defect-assisted recombination dominates the exciton relaxation process in SHI-irradiated WS2, offering new opportunities to manipulate and tune the optical properties of two-dimensional TMDCs.
