Pooling cross-sectional and time series data for estimating causality between technological innovation, affluence and carbon dynamics: A comparative evidence from developed and developing countries

Olatunji A. Shobande et al.

Summary: This study explores whether technological innovation has failed to anticipate the rise in affluence factors that dictate the level of economic activities and associated carbon emissions. The results show that improved technological innovation can not only predict and identify carbon emissions but may also be used to monitor and mitigate their impacts. Strategies for promoting technological innovation to accelerate reductions in carbon emissions without compromising sustainability are recommended.

Regional impact of aging population on economic development in China: Evidence from panel threshold regression (PTR)

Yifan Liang et al.

Summary: This study examines the non-linear impact of aging population on economic development using 18 years of panel data from 31 regions in China. The research categorizes the regions into Eastern, Central, and Western and compares the different effects of aging population on economic development. The findings show that the influence of aging population varies significantly depending on the threshold variables and regions, indicating the importance of region-specific policies.

Dynamic correlated effects of electricity prices, biomass energy, and technological innovation in Tunisia?s energy transition

Siying Li et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the interconnectedness between electricity prices, economic growth, natural gas consumption, biomass energy, and technological innovation in Tunisia from 1980 to 2018. The empirical methodologies used include ARDL, variance decomposition, and impulse response functions. The results suggest a strong association between these variables, indicating that integrating economic and environmental policies should prioritize fossil fuel alternatives for a gradual transition towards cleaner and more reliable energy sources.

Sustainability policies to reduce pollution in energy supply and waste sectors in the V4 countries

Mihaela Simionescu et al.

Summary: Sustainability is achieved through reduced natural resource consumption and pollution. This study focuses on assessing the impact of electricity prices, innovation, and economic development on pollution in the energy supply and waste sectors in the V4 countries (2010-2021). The analysis reveals a U-shaped pattern in the energy supply sector and an inverted U-shape in the waste sector. Higher electricity prices for non-households, increased renewable energy consumption in the waste sector, and patents for environment-related technologies at higher GDP levels are recommended to reduce pollution. These empirical findings provide valuable insights for policy proposals.

Achieving ecological sustainability through technological innovations, financial development, foreign direct investment, and energy consumption in developing European countries

Rong Wang et al.

Summary: This research examines the impact of technological innovations, financial development, renewable and non-renewable energy, and FDI inflows on ecological footprint in 14 developing European Union economies. The study finds that renewable energy and technological innovation can reduce environmental degradation, while financial development, non-renewable energy use, and FDI contribute to increased environmental degradation. The study suggests implementing measures in clean technology, renewable energy use, financial development, and FDI to address these issues.

Heterogenous Effects of Circular Economy, Green energy and Globalization on CO2 emissions: Policy based analysis for sustainable development

Mengxia Wang et al.

Summary: The tragedy of overconsumption leading to the depletion of natural resources has had severe negative effects on both humanity and the environment. Unregulated and unscientific waste treatment has further worsened the situation, exacerbating ecological decay. To address this, there is a need to shift from a linear economic system to a circular one by focusing on recycling available resources at their maximum capacity. This paper examines the impact of a circular economy on CO2 emissions intensity among the top seven CO2 emitters in the world and finds a positive correlation between municipal waste, a crucial component of the circular economy, and CO2 emissions.

How does population aging affect household carbon emissions? Evidence from Chinese urban and rural areas

Jianshuang Fan et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of population aging on household carbon emissions in China, finding that urban population aging increases urban household carbon emissions, while rural population aging has a significant positive effect on rural household carbon emissions at higher levels. Consumption structure and consumption level are identified as intermediary factors affecting the relationship between urban population aging and urban household carbon emissions, while income level also influences the relationship between rural population aging and rural household carbon emissions.
