Chloride-ion-directed synthesis of plate-like Cu2O mesocrystals for effective nitrogen fixation

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, plate-like Cu2O mesocrystals were successfully fabricated using a simple wet chemical strategy. Chloride ions were employed as structure-directing agents to inhibit the formation of CuO and Cu and promote the formation of Cu2O nanocrystals. The plate-like Cu2O mesocrystals showed excellent performance in the visible-light-driven photocatalytic reduction of N-2 into NH3.

Isotropic Iodide Adsorption Causes Anisotropic Growth of Copper Microplates

Myung Jun Kim et al.

Summary: This study reveals the mechanism of forming Cu microplates by adding iodide ions in Cu nanowire synthesis. The addition of iodide ions decreases the rate of Cu addition to Cu(111) while increasing the rate to Cu(100), resulting in the formation of microplates. The presence of iodide ions correlates with higher yield of microplates through activation of {100} facets and passivation of {111} facets.

Synthesis of copper nanoparticles with controllable crystallinity and their photothermal property

Jie Wang et al.

Summary: Copper nanoparticles of about 80 nm in diameter were successfully prepared in aqueous solution by reducing copper salts with sodium hypophosphite in the presence of hydrochloric acid and polyacrylamide as the capping agent. The presence of H+ facilitated the formation of Cu nanoparticles, while the crystallinity of the nanoparticles was highly dependent on the Cl- concentration. The resulting Cu-PVA hydrogel demonstrated significant photothermal conversion efficiency and bacterial killing efficiency under laser irradiation.
