Catalyst-Free Photochemical Activation of Peroxymonosulfate in Xanthene-Rich Systems for Fenton-Like Synergistic Decontamination: Efficacy of Proton Transfer Process

Fanzhi Qin et al.

Summary: Catalyst-free visible light assisted Fenton-like catalysis provides opportunities for sustainable water decontamination, but the synergistic decontamination mechanisms, especially the effect of proton transfer process (PTP), are still unclear. This study detailed the conversion of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in a photosensitive dye-enriched system. The photo-electron transfer between the excited dye and PMS triggered efficient activation of PMS and enhanced the production of reactive species. Photochemistry behavior analysis and DFT calculations revealed that PTP was the crucial factor determining the decontamination performance by transforming dye molecules, and the excitation process involved low energy excitations, with electrons and holes mainly contributed by LUMO and HOMO.

Review and Perspectives of Enhancement in the Catalytic Stability for the Complete Combustion of CO, CH4, and Volatile Organic Compounds

Yuan Feng et al.

Summary: CO, CH4, and VOCs are typical air pollutants that have received significant attention due to their negative impact on the environment and human health. Although heterogeneous catalysts are widely used in removing exhaust emissions, they often suffer from deactivation. Therefore, developing catalysts with high stability is crucial. This review summarizes recent advances in enhancing the catalytic stability of catalysts and proposes future perspectives for developing stable and highly efficient catalysts in the fields of pollutant removal and VOC resource utilization via selective catalytic oxidation.

Preparation of flexible Pt/TiO2/γ-Al2O3 nanofiber paper for room-temperature HCHO oxidation and particulate filtration

Silong Zhu et al.

Summary: The flexible Pt/TiO2/γ-Al2O3 nanofiber paper (PTA) exhibited higher catalytic activity and stability compared to Pt/γ-Al2O3, with 1% Pt in PTA1 showing the best performance. The TiO2 coating promoted the transformation of intermediate species and CO2 desorption. A Pt content of 0.5% was found to be optimal, with TiO2 also acting as a protective shell for the γ-Al2O3 fibers.

Haze Air Pollution Health Impacts of Breath-Borne VOCs

Lu Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the use of breath-borne VOCs for monitoring air pollution health effects on humans was investigated. The research showed significant differences in six VOC species between pre-, on-, and post-exposure to haze pollution. The machine learning model GBM demonstrated high precision in distinguishing between pre- and on-exposure to haze pollution. Correlation analysis identified several factors that played important roles in the changes in breath-borne VOC fingerprints following haze air pollution exposure.

Unveiling the charge transfer dynamics steered by built-in electric fields in BiOBr photocatalysts

Zhishan Luo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of internal electric fields on charge transfer dynamics and identifies carrier drift distances as a critical parameter. By analyzing electron microscopy data, the authors propose a Gaussian distribution model to measure the diffusion length and drift distance of electrons. The research finds that the charge separation efficiency and photocatalytic performance are maximized when the particle size is approximately twice the drift distance.
