Synthesis and Evaluation of Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticle and its Application in Chemical Enhanced oil Recovery

Sushipra Vats et al.

Summary: After primary and secondary techniques, there is still a significant amount of hydrocarbons left in the reservoir. The use of chemicals such as surfactants and polymers can help recover an additional one-third of this oil. Researchers are studying the potential applications of mixing surfactant and nanoparticles in petroleum industry. This study investigates the usage of synthesized Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles (MSN) with Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate (SDS) surfactant for Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery through various experiments.

CO2-switchable oil-in-dispersion emulsions stabilized by tertiary amine surfactant and alumina particles

Miao Lv et al.

Summary: A CO2/N-2-switchable oil-in-dispersion emulsion was developed using a tertiary amine surfactant and alumina particles, allowing reversible demulsification/stabilization at room temperature. The emulsion's sensitivity to CO2/N-2 trigger under mild conditions requires less surfactant and particles, making it environmentally and economically attractive for various applications.

Experimental Study and Numerical Simulation of W/O Emulsion in Developing Heavy Oil Reservoirs

Kaixuan Wang et al.

Summary: This paper studies the stability and droplet size distribution of W/O emulsion under different conditions and carries out experiments and numerical simulations. The results show that the stability and droplet size of the emulsion are affected by stirring speed, temperature, water content, and salinity. In addition, the shut-off ability of the emulsion in heterogeneous reservoirs is related to the permeability contrast. These research results are of great significance for improving oil recovery in heterogeneous heavy oil reservoirs.

Characterization of clay-stabilized, oil-in-water Pickering emulsion for potential conformance control in high-salinity, high-temperature reservoirs

Long Yu et al.

Summary: This study prepared a Na-montmorillonite clay-stabilized oil-in-water Pickering emulsion system and tested it under high-salinity and high-temperature conditions. The emulsion showed effective emulsification of decane at salinities up to 25 wt% NaCl, but stability against creaming decreased with increases in NaCl concentration. Despite this, the temperature had only a slight effect on emulsion stability against creaming at high NaCl concentrations.
