Visual inspection method of steel pipe surface cracks based on dry magnetic particle feature enhancement

Xiang Cai et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a visual inspection method for surface cracks on steel pipes based on dry magnetic particle feature enhancement. By using dry red magnetic particles and capturing complementary color images, background noise is eliminated and magnetic particle indication features are enhanced, resulting in a good detection effect on hot-rolled steel pipes with complex surface texture, uneven color grayscale, and fuzzy cracks.

Analysis of the accuracy of in-situ concrete characteristic compressive strength assessment in real structures using destructive and non-destructive testing methods

Khoudja Ali-Benyahia et al.

Summary: The estimation of in-situ concrete compressive strength in existing structures is vital for assessing structural capacity. Destructive testing combined with non-destructive testing offers an interesting method for concrete strength assessment. Non-destructive techniques like Rebound Hammer and Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity are widely used to estimate in-situ strength. The new standard version (EN 13791-2019) of assessing in-situ concrete strength shows positive effects on strength assessment, but the statistical procedures for calculating the characteristic strength seem to underestimate the results and be excessively conservative compared to the 2007 version.

Transient eddy current response to pulsed eddy current testing inside a ferromagnetic casing

Hu Sun et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the transient eddy current response of a ferromagnetic casing with a pair of eccentric coils placed inside. Time-domain expressions are derived using the second order vector potential to describe the transient responses induced by the excitation field and eddy current field. Based on the derived formulas, an efficient method is proposed to obtain the transient eddy current response, which benefits the health condition analysis of a conductive casing. The validity of the method is verified through experiments.

Pruning of generative adversarial neural networks for medical imaging diagnostics with evolution strategy

Francisco Erivaldo Fernandes Jr et al.

Summary: Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs) have the potential to revolutionize medical imaging diagnostics, but due to data scarcity and unbalanced classes in medical data, researchers often turn to Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to synthesize more data. In this study, an algorithm for pruning GANs based on Evolution Strategy (ES) and Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) is proposed to find a model with the best trade-off between computational complexity and synthesis performance.
