Computational tool for technical-economic analysis of photovoltaic microgeneration in Brazil

Abio Xavier Cardoso de Jesus et al.

Summary: This paper presents SolarEnergy, a novel computational tool for technical-economic analysis of photovoltaic microgeneration in Brazil. SolarEnergy calculates energy flow and energy bill savings based on the rules of the Brazilian NEM scheme. It provides the optimal nominal power based on panel orientation, slope, and electricity consumption profile, avoiding undersizing or oversizing. Additionally, SolarEnergy offers information such as electricity generation, net present value, modified internal rate of return, discounted payback time, and sensitivity analysis of key parameters.

Efficiency improvement and technology choice for energy and emission reductions of the residential sector

Vassilis Daioglou et al.

Summary: The residential sector plays a significant role in global energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Decarbonization strategies for this sector involve reducing heating demand, improving building envelope efficiency, and adopting advanced heating technologies. While heating demand is expected to decrease in a 2 degrees C scenario, cooling demand is projected to increase, especially in warmer regions. However, combining measures such as high efficiency heating and cooling, increased insulation, and rooftop PV can almost eliminate direct residential emissions by 2100.
