Impairments in goal-directed action and reversal learning in a proportion of individuals with psychosis

Shuichi Suetani et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the relationship between goal-directed action, reversal learning, and symptom profiles in individuals with persistent psychosis. The findings suggest that impaired decision-making, indicative of cortico-striatal dysfunction, is present in a large proportion of people with persistent psychosis and has significant functional implications in terms of planning and abstract thinking.

Sufficient reliability of the behavioral and computational readouts of a probabilistic reversal learning task

Maria Waltmann et al.

Summary: Task-based measures that capture neurocognitive processes can help bridge the gap between brain and behavior. This study examined the retest reliability of a probabilistic reversal learning task (PRLT) in healthy subjects and found good to excellent reliability for behavioral indices derived from mixed-effects models, as well as excellent reliability for indices derived from computational modeling with hierarchical estimation and empirical priors. The study discusses the implications of these findings for the applicability of PRLT indices in psychiatric research and as diagnostic tools.

Cellpose: a generalist algorithm for cellular segmentation

Carsen Stringer et al.

Summary: Cellpose is a generalist, deep learning-based segmentation method that can precisely segment cells from various types of images without requiring retraining or parameter adjustments. It was trained on a highly diverse image dataset and supports a three-dimensional extension. Software has been developed to support community contributions to the training data.

Effects of methylphenidate on reinforcement learning depend on working memory capacity

Mojtaba Rostami Kandroodi et al.

Summary: Contrary to expectations, methylphenidate did not affect performance in the reversal phase of the task. The key finding was that methylphenidate changed the learning of choice-outcome contingencies in a way that depended on individual working memory capacity variability. Specifically, methylphenidate improved performance by adaptively reducing the effective learning rate in participants with higher working memory capacity.
