Simplified Preparation of ppm Pd-Containing Nanoparticles as Catalysts for Chemistry in Water

Yuting Hu et al.

Summary: A protocol has been developed to simplify the preparation of nanoparticles with low-level ligated palladium for heterogeneous catalysis, ensuring reproducible cross-coupling reactions. The process involves the formation of stable, storable Pd- and ligand-free nanoparticles, followed by the addition of Pd(OAc)2 and ligand matched to the desired coupling type in water, under mild aqueous micellar conditions. Four different types of couplings were studied: Suzuki-Miyaura, Sonogashira, Mizoroki-Heck, and Negishi reactions.

Palladium-catalyzed micellar cross-couplings: An outlook

Tharique N. Ansari et al.

Summary: In the last few decades, cross-coupling approaches using palladium as a catalyst have been widely used for efficient generation of structural diversity. However, traditional practices in organic synthesis have been found to be inefficient due to the use of organic solvents. Using water as a reaction medium along with non-ionic surfactants provides a sustainable alternative, reducing the reliance on toxic organic solvents. This review discusses recent advances in micellar catalysis applied to palladium-mediated cross-couplings, as well as future directions and challenges.
