Sandwich-structure PI/SPEEK/PI proton exchange membrane developed for achieving the high durability on excellent proton conductivity and stability

Peng Wei et al.

Summary: In this study, a sandwich-structure nanofiber composite proton exchange membrane (PEM) was proposed, which achieved improved stability and durability while maintaining high proton conductivity by sandwiching the inexpensive proton-transport matrix between polyimide nanofiber mats. The results showed that compared to the referenced PEM, our sandwich-structure PEM had equivalent initial proton conductivity and significantly improved proton conductivity stability, with a conductivity decrease of only 21% after 6 weeks. The combination of high proton conductivity, long-term stability, low cost, and simple preparation suggests promising commercial applications for future PEMs.

In-plane and through-plane dielectric properties of graphene oxide membrane: Effect of Al3+ modification

Yijing Y. Stehle et al.

Summary: A graphene oxide (GO) membrane was studied for its dielectric properties and modified with Al3+ ions to tailor its performance. The study demonstrated that the addition of Al3+ ions could increase the through-plane dielectric constant and decrease the in-plane dielectric constant of the GO membrane. The Al3+ modification also resulted in increased through-plane dielectric loss and decreased in-plane dielectric loss in a low frequency regime. This research suggests the possibility of designing GO membranes with controllable dielectric performance.

Summary: In this study, the dielectric properties of SPEEK solid polymer electrolytes containing room-temperature molten salt were investigated, with ionic liquid addition causing changes in crystalline structure and surface morphology of the electrolytes. The addition of IL led to the formation of amorphous character, creating proton conduction paths with enhanced conductivity. Among the composite electrolytes, SPEEK-30 x 2IM showed significantly higher ionic conductivity compared to pure SPEEK-30.
