Dongyu Tan et al.

Summary: A series of Z-scheme heterojunction g-C3N4/Bi5O7I composites were successfully synthesized using an electrostatic self-assembly method. The optimized 15%-g-C3N4/Bi5O7I exhibited efficient degradation of tetracycline under visible light irradiation, attributed to the generation of photo-induced h+ and O2•- radicals. The migration of photo-induced h+ and e- between g-C3N4 and Bi5O7I was investigated, and the degradation pathways and toxicological simulation of tetracycline were evaluated. The composite also demonstrated good stability and reusability, making it a promising photocatalyst for practical applications.

First-principles study for the electric field influence on electronic and optical properties of AlN/g-C3N4 heterostructure

Chenxi Liu et al.

Summary: Constructing a heterostructure and applying an external electric field are effective methods for enhancing photocatalytic efficiency. In this study, we systematically investigate the electronic and optical properties of an AlN/g-C3N4 heterostructure under varying electric fields using first principles. Our findings indicate that the AlN/g-C3N4 heterostructure demonstrates high stability and reduced bandgap, enhancing electron escape ability. The bandgap of AlN/g-C3N4 reduces when an electric field is applied, and -0.4 V/angstrom AlN/g-C3N4 shows a band alignment that spans the redox reaction of water, enhancing the photocatalytic water splitting efficiency.

Synthesis of novel Type-II MnNb2O6/g-C3N4 Mott-Schottky heterojunction photocatalyst: Excellent photocatalytic performance and degradation mechanism of fluoroquinolone-based antibiotics

Naveed Ahmad et al.

Summary: In order to address the presence of fluoroquinolone antibiotics in aquatic environments, it is necessary to design a semiconductor photocatalyst with excellent photocatalytic efficiency. This study explored the performance of MnNb2O6/g-C3N4 composites in the photocatalytic degradation of ciprofloxacin and tetracycline-HCl antibiotics. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of MNO/g-CN was found to be due to the electron's shifting between the MNO and g-CN sheets, promoting the formation of photo-generated e(-)/h(+) pairs, indicating the existence of a low-waste, high-performance material for eradicating ciprofloxacin and tetracycline-HCl from wastewater.

Investigation on the photocatalytic property of direct Z-type van der Waals g-C3N4/AlN heterojunction and its mechanism

Wen-Jing Zhao et al.

Summary: Using hybrid density functional method, the electronic, interfacial and optical properties of g-C3N4/AlN heterojunction, and the effects of electric field and biaxial strain on its photocatalytic performance were systematically investigated. The results show that g-C3N4/AlN is a direct band gap semiconductor (2.71 eV) with staggered band alignment structure, and exhibits direct Z-scheme photocatalytic reaction mechanism. The external electric field and biaxial strain can modulate its band properties and the heterostructure can meet the redox potential requirements for photocatalytic water-splitting. This study provides a theoretical basis for the design of g-C3N4-based heterojunctions with excellent photocatalytic performance.
