Deep-AFPpred: identifying novel antifungal peptides using pretrained embeddings from seq2vec with 1DCNN-BiLSTM

Ritesh Sharma et al.

Summary: Fungal infections have become more prevalent due to the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a need for alternative antifungal molecules. This study introduces Deep-AFPpred, a deep learning classifier that can effectively identify antifungal peptides (AFPs) in protein sequences. An online prediction server is developed based on this approach, allowing for the identification of novel AFPs.

Enfuvirtide, an HIV-1 fusion inhibitor peptide, can act as a potent SARS-CoV-2 fusion inhibitor: an in silico drug repurposing study

Khadijeh Ahmadi et al.

Summary: This study focused on using HIV-1 fusion inhibitor Enf to inhibit the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into host cells. Through molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations, the results showed a strong interaction between Enf and the S2 protein of SARS-CoV-2, suggesting the potential of Enf as a potent fusion inhibitor for COVID-19.

Determination of antifungal activity and action mechanism of the modified Aurein 1.2 peptide derivatives

Hamid Madanchi et al.

Summary: Aurein N3, a novel derivative of Aurein 1.2, shows lower cytotoxicity, higher ergosterol-binding capability, and comparable antifungal activity compared to the original peptides. It can bind to ergosterol and attack the cell wall/membrane of fungi.

Evaluation of Antibacterial, Antifungal, and Cytotoxicity Effects of CecropinA-Magenin2 (CE-MA) Peptide and Its Truncated Derivatives and Study of Their Action Mechanism

Samaneh Namvar Arabani et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the antimicrobial effects of CE-MA antimicrobial peptide and its truncated derivatives against various fungal and bacterial strains. The results showed that CMt1 was the most effective derivative, with low toxicity against L929 cells. CE-MA and CMt1 exerted their antimicrobial effects by binding to LPS from the cell membranes of Gram-negative bacteria.
