Effects of local scour on failure envelopes of offshore monopiles and caissons

Xinshuai Guo et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of different dimensions of local scour holes on the bearing capacity behavior of monopiles and caissons using numerical analysis. The results show that the scour depth has a more significant effect on the bearing capacity than the scour hole angle. Local scour not only affects the magnitude of the bearing capacity, but also the shape of the failure envelopes.

The optimisation of anti-overturning capacities for tripod suction bucket foundations in clay manuscript submitted to ocean engineering

Changlin Qiu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the anti-overturning capacity of tripod bucket foundations in clay, with a focus on larger foundation embedment. By systematically examining the kinematic mechanisms and proposing an efficient method, the anti-overturning capacity of foundations with different embedment, spacing, and soil strength heterogeneity can be predicted.

Evaluation of capacities of bucket foundations in soft-stiff-soft clays under combined loading

Ningxin Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the response of bucket foundations in soft clay interbedded with a stiff clay layer under combined loading and established a corresponding design method. The numerical modeling results showed a significant difference in failure mechanism compared to single-layer soft clay, and a series of numerical analyses were conducted to explore the factors affecting the bearing capacities of the foundations.

Automated procedure to derive convex failure envelope formulations for circular surface foundations under six degrees of freedom loading

Stephen K. Suryasentana et al.

Summary: This paper describes a systematic procedure for deriving globally convex failure envelope formulations, addressing the difficulties in adopting the failure envelope approach in foundation engineering applications. The formulations closely represent failure load combinations under various loading conditions, and an example macro-element model provides a close representation of foundation behavior. The key aspect of the paper is the automated process for determining well-behaved failure envelope formulations, offering advantages over manual procedures.

Capacity of caissons in stiff-over-soft clay under combined V-H-M loadings

Huxi Xia et al.

Summary: This study conducted a numerical analysis on the bearing capacities of caissons in stiff-over-soft clay under combined V-H-M loadings. The research found significant differences in failure mechanisms of caissons in stiff-over-soft clay compared to uniform clay, and proposed an empirical design method to predict failure envelopes under various loading situations.
