Characterization of foamed concrete with different additives using multi-scale micro-computed tomography

Sang-Yeop Chung et al.

Summary: This study focused on the microstructural characterization of various foamed concrete specimens using multi-scale X-ray microcomputed tomography (micro-CT). Different water/binder ratios, supplementary cementing materials, and their effects on material characteristics and compressive strength were analyzed. Results showed that solid structures significantly affected the material strength based on the type of supplementary cementing materials and water/binder ratio.

Drying shrinkage, durability and microstructure of foamed concrete containing high volume lime mud-fly ash

Huaqiang Yuan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the drying shrinkage, durability, and microstructure of foamed concrete containing high volume lime mud and fly ash. The results showed that wet density and LM-FA dosage had a significant impact on the properties of the foamed concrete. Wet density increase and LM-FA dosage decrease led to an increase in compressive strength and drying shrinkage.

Enhancement of compressive strength of high-volume fly ash cement paste by wet grinded cement: Towards low carbon cementitious materials

Hongbo Tan et al.

Summary: This study used wet grinding to obtain superfine particles in cement and found that it enhances the compressive strength of high-volume fly ash (HVFA) systems. The wet ground cement (WGC) reduced CO2 emissions and costs compared to Portland cement (PC), making it a potential solution for low carbon cementitious materials.

A systematic research on foamed concrete: The effects of foam content, fly ash, slag, silica fume and water-to-binder ratio

Sulei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of foam content, fly ash, slag, silica fume, and water-to-binder ratio on the properties of foamed concrete. It is found that an optimal content of fly ash improves the fluidity of foamed concrete. Other factors affect the mechanical strength and water absorption of foamed concrete. Silica fume has a strong influence on the properties of foamed concrete. The foamed concrete prepared in this study displays higher mechanical strength and light weight compared to previous literature findings.

Property degradation of seawater sea sand cementitious mortar with GGBFS and glass fiber subjected to elevated temperatures

Fulin Qu et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) and glass fiber on the degradation of seawater sea sand mortar (FSSM) after elevated temperature exposure were investigated. It was found that the addition of GGBFS and glass fiber improved the compressive and flexural strengths of FSSM, and GGBFS helped enhance the microstructure stability of FSSM under high temperatures. The study suggests that the high temperature resistance of FSSM can be enhanced by incorporating glass fibers and GGBFS.
