Public Concern about Water Safety, Weather, and Climate: Insights from the World Risk Poll

Joshua F. Inwald et al.

Summary: Water safety refers to the quality of drinking water and whether it contains dangerous contaminants. Limited access to safe water is estimated to affect around 5 billion people globally by 2050. Climate change and worsening severe weather events pose increasing threats to global water safety, but people may not realize the connection between climate change and water safety, which could undermine their willingness to take actions to improve water safety. This study analyzed survey data from the 2019 Lloyd's Register Foundation World Risk Poll in 142 countries to examine the relationship between people's concerns about severe weather, climate change, and water safety.

Broadband solar-driven water evaporator based on organic hybrid bandgap and bio-mimetic interfaces

Jingshuai Zhu et al.

Summary: Due to their lightweight, flexibility, and molecular diversity, organic photothermal materials have the potential to be used as solar absorbent materials for water-evaporating purification. In this study, a Janus water evaporator was fabricated using a blend of two organic photothermal materials, PM6 and Y6, with broad solar absorption and high-efficiency photothermal properties. The evaporator exhibited efficient water adhesion on the bottom surface and water repellency on the top surface, allowing for self-floating capability and salt resistance. With a mass of only 0.5 mg, the PM6:Y6 blend-based water evaporator achieved high conversion efficiency and water evaporation rate under solar irradiation. Furthermore, the evaporator demonstrated excellent performance in wastewater treatment and thermoelectric power generation.
