Miniaturized Polarization-Insensitive Rectifying Metasurface for Powering Internet of Things Devices

Fan Yu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a miniaturized polarization-insensitive rectifying metasurface unit cell for powering electric devices of the Internet of Things. The metasurface, composed of two layers of substrate and three layers of metal, consists of eight asymmetric dipoles. The equivalent circuit theory analysis reveals the miniaturization mechanism, and simulation results show a harvesting efficiency higher than 90% for arbitrary polarized waves from 2.2 to 2.7 GHz. The integration of Schottky diodes with the rectifying metasurface achieves a maximum harvesting-rectifying efficiency of 61% at 2.45 GHz, with a power density of 8 mW/cm² yielding 80 mW of DC power.

A Nonlinear Rectifying Diode Model for Low and High Power Levels in Microwave Regime

Fading Zhao et al.

Summary: This letter discusses a nonlinear Schottky diode modeling method for microwave rectifier design and fast optimal diode selection. By analyzing the current-voltage diode characteristic curve, the maximum achievable power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the rectifier circuit can be accurately predicted. Closed-form equations are derived to predict the PCE of a given diode at specific working conditions, providing a useful tool for fast optimal diode selection.
