Summary: The antibacterial effects of AH-ZnO NPs depend on their concentration and treatment time. In addition, the bulk ORP value and released Zn2+ concentration in AH-ZnO NPs solutions increase with the concentration. SEM and intracellular protein leakage results indicate that AH-ZnO NPs can adhere to the surface of S. aureus without causing cell membrane disruption. The decrease in photoluminescence intensity after adding S. aureus confirms electron transfer from S. aureus to AH-ZnO NPs, suggesting disruption of the respiratory electron transfer chain of S. aureus.

Large-Scale Staphylococcus aureus Foodborne Disease Poisoning Outbreak among Primary School Children

Summary: A large-scale food poisoning outbreak occurred at a school canteen in Ninh Binh Province, Vietnam in 2018, with 352 students hospitalized. Laboratory investigation identified Staphylococcus aureus and staphylococcal enterotoxins in the food, indicating contamination of chicken meat as the cause. The SE-producing strain was found to be resistant to penicillin and tetracycline, highlighting the importance of monitoring and surveillance for pathogenic S. aureus in Vietnam.
