Chuan Li et al.

Summary: Poly(silylene arylacetylene) resins with good mechanical properties and excellent heat resistance were synthesized and their structures and properties were characterized. The study found that the substituents on the main chain of the resin had slight effects on its thermal properties but significantly affected its processing and mechanical properties. Among them, the resin with phenyl substituent showed the best processability and mechanical performance.

Novel liquid phthalonitrile monomers towards high performance resin

Muyao Gao et al.

Summary: Phthalonitrile resins are high temperature resistant polymers with potential applications in harsh environments. Liquid phthalonitrile monomers containing flexible siloxane segments were designed to solve the problem of short processing windows caused by high melting points. The monomers demonstrated good thermal stability and high fluidity, allowing for processing at room temperature. Blending liquid and powdered monomers improved both processibility and temperature resistance of the cured resin.

Thermal, mechanical and dielectric property enhancement of benzoxazine-containing phthalonitrile resin: The effect of functional oligomeric polyphenyl ether

Jiajia Ye et al.

Summary: Two oligomeric polyphenyl ethers (PPE) with different functional groups were added into benzoxazine-containing phthalonitrile resin to enhance the dielectric properties. The polymerization mechanism and comprehensive properties of the two systems were investigated. It was found that both hydroxyl-terminated PPE (PH) and allyl-terminated PPE (PA) effectively promoted the curing of phthalonitrile resin, but PH showed higher activity. PH could not chemically bond with the crosslinking network, while the allyl groups in PA improved thermal resistance and dimensional stability. PA system exhibited better dielectric properties, with Poly(MBP-30PA) showing the lowest dielectric constant of 2.88 at 1 MHz. The mechanical strength of the glass fiber reinforced composites was also enhanced in G(MBP-20PA).

Summary: Easy-processable phthalonitrile resins were prepared using novel viscosity reducing comonomer CPN. Different curing agents, aromatic diamine DDS and 4-(4-aminophenoxy) phthalonitrile APN, were used to study their effects on material properties. Carbon fabric composites with APN-cured matrix showed high compression strength and thermal aging sustainability, but post-curing at 375 degrees C resulted in decreased mechanical properties.
