One-Pot Synthesis of CO2-Based Polylactide-b-Poly(ether carbonate)-b-Polylactide Triblock Copolymers and Their Mechanical Properties

Jingjing Liu et al.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis of CO2-based triblock copolymers with a central poly(ether carbonate) block surrounded by two polylactide blocks. By adjusting the CO2 pressure during copolymerization, the glass transition temperature of the central block can be fine-tuned, allowing the synthesis of poly(propylene oxide-co-propylene carbonate) with different carbonate versus ether contents. The resulting triblock copolymers exhibit improved ductility compared to the parent copolymers and outperform commercial polyolefins in terms of mechanical properties.

The signal-to-noise issue in mass spectrometric analysis of polymers

Ian C. Chagunda et al.

Summary: As the average molecular weight of polymers increases, mass spectrometric approaches to polymer analysis become increasingly ineffective due to factors such as signal distribution over a wider range of species, polyisotopic contributions becoming more significant, signal width increasing, and limitations caused by solubility properties and solvent adducts. These factors, along with the drop in polymer concentration during sample preparations for MALDI analysis, ultimately result in a signal-to-noise problem that restricts the ability of mass spectrometry to determine molecular weight distribution for high mass polymers.

Efficient ternary catalyst system for the copolymerization of lactide, epoxides and CO2: new insights into the cooperative mechanism

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: The study focused on a new homogeneous ternary catalyst system (TCS III) which showed higher activity compared to the previous TCS I and remained active even under diluted conditions. Detailed analysis of the microstructure of the resulting copolymer revealed that SalenCo(III)-DFTP's difference in X-axial ligands provides it with unique catalytic properties.

Copolymerization of lactide, epoxides and carbon dioxide: a highly efficient heterogeneous ternary catalyst system

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: A novel heterogeneous ternary catalyst system (TCS) comprising of SalenCo(III), zinc glutarate (ZnGA) and PPNCl has been proposed, demonstrating intermolecular cooperation between cobalt and zinc to form multiblock copolymers. The TCS shows high activity and selectivity in the controlled copolymerization of mixed monomers.
