Simultaneous detection and genetic characterization of porcine circovirus 2 and 4 in Henan province of China

Tong Xu et al.

Summary: PCV4 was identified as a novel porcine circovirus in China in 2019. A study in Henan province investigated the prevalence and genetic characteristics of PCV2 and PCV4 in 133 clinical samples, revealing higher PCV2 positive rate than PCV4 and co-infection occurrences. Sequence analysis of PCV2 strains suggested the circulation of new variant strains in Henan province, while putative genotypes of PCV4 strains were determined based on genomic sequences.

Phylogeography Reveals Association between Swine Trade and the Spread of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus in China and across the World

Wan-Ting He et al.

Summary: The ongoing SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has revealed gaps in our understanding of animal coronaviruses, including the porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV). This study analyzed PEDV sequence data and identified Guangdong and Henan provinces in China as primary hubs for PEDV spread. The United States and China were found to have the highest number of PEDV lineages globally. It was estimated that the United States played a significant role in introducing PEDV to other countries through live swine trade. The findings highlight the importance of prevention and containment measures for livestock coronaviruses due to the global trade of live swine.

Virulence Comparison of Four Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) Genotypes (2a, 2b, 2d and 2e) in Pigs Single-Infected with PCV2 and Pigs Dual-Infected with PCV2 and Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae

Taehwan Oh et al.

Summary: The study found significant differences in virulence among four genotypes of PCV2, with PCV2d being the most virulent. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae increased the severity of PCV2-associated lymphoid lesions and PCV2 loads, regardless of the PCV2 genotype.

Current knowledge on epidemiology and evolution of novel porcine circovirus 4

Dongliang Wang et al.

Summary: Porcine circovirus type 4 (PCV4) is a newly emerging virus that has been detected in swine herds in China and South Korea. Research suggests that PCV4 may have been present as early as 2008. More studies are needed to understand the epidemiology and genetic diversity of PCV4, as well as its association with clinical manifestations.

Genetic Diversity and Prevalence of Porcine Circovirus Type 2 in China During 2000-2019

Ning Li et al.

Summary: The study reveals the genetic diversity of PCV2 in China, showing that PCV2b was initially dominant but shifted to PCV2d from 2009. This suggests a potential transition from PCV2b to PCV2d in 2009, similar to global patterns. Additionally, novel PCV2 strains were identified, highlighting the rich genetic diversity of PCV2 in China from 2000 to 2019.
