Investigation of the optimum design of magnetic field arrangement to enhance heat transfer performance of Fe3O4-water magnetic nanofluid

Taher Halawa et al.

Summary: Numerical simulations were conducted to find the best magnetic field arrangement for maximizing heat exchange performance of Fe3O4-water magnetic nanofluid. The orientation, number, and distribution of magnetic field were studied, and the optimum design was tested under different conditions. Results showed that placing N-N oriented magnets and increasing magnetic flux density between magnets achieved the best design. Increasing magnetic flux density resulted in higher average Nusselt number and pressure drop. The effect of increasing magnetic nanoparticles volume fraction was more significant at low Reynolds number. The optimum design with an average magnetic flux density of 1000 Gauss and magnetic nanoparticles volume fraction of 4% achieved a 16.44%-24.46% increase in average Nusselt number compared to the design without magnetic field.

Numerical treatment of hybrid water based nanofluid flow with effect of dissipation and Joule heating over a shrinking surface: Stability analysis

Ghulam Rasool et al.

Summary: This study investigated the steady flow of Cu-Al2O3/water hybrid nanofluid in the presence of Joule heating and viscous dissipation across a porous shrinking sheet. By transforming the governing PDEs into ODEs using a similarity transformation, the system of ODEs is solved using the bvp4c function in MATLAB. The numerical and visual comparisons with existing literature demonstrate excellent agreements. The impacts of new physical governing factors on velocity and temperature profiles, as well as heat transfer and skin friction variations, are visually shown and explained hypothetically. Additionally, the presence of duality within a limited range of suction parameters is observed.

Experimental investigation of the effect of mechanical vibration and rotating magnetic field on the hydrothermal performance of water-Fe3O4 ferrofluid inside a rifled tube

Amin Shahsavar et al.

Summary: Vibration and magnetic field can enhance the hydrothermal performance by disturbing the thermal boundary layer and increasing the ferrofluid mixing. Experimental analysis was conducted to study the effects of vibration and rotational magnetic field (RMF) on ferrofluid flow inside a rifled tube. The results showed that the system with a pitch of 5 mm exhibited the highest performance evaluation criterion (PEC). Without vibration and RMF effects, the highest PEC was obtained at a pitch of 5 mm and nanoparticle concentration of 0% with a Reynolds number of 2000. Under vibration, the highest PEC of 1.28 was achieved at a Reynolds number of 2000 and nanoparticle concentration of 2% with the highest vibration acceleration of 5 m/s2. Among the RMFs examined, the counter clock-wise RMF with the counter clock-wise fluid flow resulted in the highest PEC of 1.62. RMF improved the PEC of the system by 21.32% under vibration.

Solutal effects on thermal sensitivity of casson nanofluids with comparative investigations on Newtonian (water) and non-Newtonian (blood) base liquids

Jyoti Sharma et al.

Summary: In recent years, nanoparticles have been widely used in medicines and pharmaceuticals due to their unique mechanical, optical, and electrical properties, which significantly affect the convection of blood. This study investigates the influence of nanoparticles on the thermosolutal sensitivity of non-Newtonian fluid flow, specifically using blood as the base liquid. The effects of solutal variables and the Casson fluid model are considered, and comparative studies between non-Newtonian blood and Newtonian water with metallic/non-metallic nanoparticles are conducted, revealing key observations not yet established in the literature. The solutal effects dominate the thermosolutal instability, making the system highly sensitive, while the Casson parameter stabilizes the liquid and increases the instability of the layer for higher values.

Towards a novel EMHD dissipative stagnation point flow model for radiating copper-based ethylene glycol nanofluids: An unsteady two-dimensional homogeneous second-grade flow case study

Noureddine Elboughdiri et al.

Summary: A novel electromagnetic hydromagnetic dissipative second-grade nanofluid flow model is proposed to study the dynamics and thermodynamics behavior of copper-based ethylene glycol nanofluids under the influence of a horizontal electromagnetic actuator. The governing partial differential equations and boundary conditions are derived based on physical assumptions and experimental correlations. A robust generalized differential quadrature algorithm is used to solve the resulting ordinary differential equations and boundary conditions, and the influence of various factors on the flow control process and heat transport mechanism is investigated. The graphical results show that the loading process of nanoparticles has different dynamic and thermal impacts compared to the nanoparticles' diameter size, and the resistive dynamical effect of the electromagnetic actuator enhances the role of thermal radiative heat flux and Joule's heating process in the nanofluidic medium.

Influence of magnetic field location on the heat transfer and friction factor of CoFe2O4-BaTiO3/EG hybrid nanofluids in laminar flow: An experimental study

L. Syam Sundar et al.

Summary: This report examines the heat transfer and friction factor characteristics of CoFe2O4-BaTiO3/ethylene glycol hybrid nanofluids in a tube under both magnetic field and non-magnetic field conditions. The CoFe2O4 and BaTiO3 nanoparticles were synthesized individually and then combined to form composite hybrid nanoparticles. The experiments showed that the Nusselt number increased by 22.19% with a penalty in friction factor of 21.88% when using a 1.0% volume fraction of nanofluid and a Reynolds number of 1240.15, compared to the base fluid without a magnetic field. Furthermore, the Nusselt number increased by 68.95% and 72.33% for nanofluids with a magnetic field of 1600 G and 4000 G, respectively, compared to the base fluid. Under a magnetic field of 4000 G and a 1.0% volume fraction of nanofluid, the Nusselt number improved by 41.03%, 35.14%, and 25.94% at different positions, demonstrating that the maximum Nusselt number was achieved at a distance/diameter ratio of 30.

Water thermal enhancement in a porous medium via a suspension of hybrid nanoparticles: MHD mixed convective Falkner's-Skan flow case study

Kezheng Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the two-dimensional flow pattern and thermal characteristics of a radiating homogeneous hybrid nanofluidic mixture (Ag + TiO2) -H2O over a non-movable wedge surface were investigated. The conservation equations were properly stated by combining Darcy's-Brinkman and single-phase models, taking into account the hydrothermal impacts of specific variable heat and magnetic sources. The derived boundary layer equations were solved numerically using a robust iterative GDQM-NRT algorithm, and the accurate results were presented graphically and tabularly. The findings showed that the thermal buoyancy forces, as well as Lorentz's and Darcy's forces, act as assisting factors, resulting in a cooling effect throughout the hybrid nanofluidic mixture (Ag + TiO2) -H2O due to the imposed axial pressure gradient. Energetically, it was demonstrated that the silver nanoparticles play a noteworthy role in enhancing the heat transfer rate at the wedge surface with an increase in the resulting surface viscous drag forces.

Generalized differential quadrature scrutinization of an advanced MHD stability problem concerned water-based nanofluids with metal/metal oxide nanomaterials: A proper application of the revised two-phase nanofluid model with convective heating and through-flow boundary conditions

Summary: The present numerical investigation focuses on the optimum characteristics of magneto-convection phenomenon in Newtonian nanofluids. The study reveals the influence of convective heating and a uniform through-flow process on the stability of the nanofluids, and provides a mathematical model for the non-homogeneous MHD convective flow. The results indicate that the suction and injection effects have different behaviors on system evolution, and the magnetic Lorentz forces and nanomaterials loading contribute to system stabilization. However, the diameter size of nanoparticles and the thermal Biot number have a destabilizing effect on the nanofluidic medium.
