A voltage-shifting-based state-of-charge balancing control for distributed energy storage systems in islanded DC microgrids

Zuliang Huang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a distributed secondary control strategy for parallel battery energy units (BEUs) in a DC microgrid. The strategy consists of two layers: a primary control layer with droop control and a secondary control layer that generates a voltage-shifting term using an information state factor. A sigmoid function with a balancing adjustment factor is adopted to improve SOC balancing accuracy and speed. The proposed method reduces communication burden, avoids unnecessary cyclic charge or discharge, and achieves accurate current sharing and consistent output voltage.

Luis Fernando Grisales-Norena et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the optimal operation of batteries in standalone and grid-connected DC Microgrids that include photovoltaic generators operating at maximum power point. A mathematical model with three objective functions was formulated to minimize operating costs, reduce energy losses, and minimize CO2 emissions. The model integrates constraints representing the operation of DC microgrids. Three parallel solution methodologies were used: PPSO, PVSA, and PALO. Tests were conducted to validate the effectiveness of the solution methods using MATLAB software. The results showed that PVSA performed the best in standalone grids, while PALO achieved the best results in grid-connected networks.
