Early dynamics of laser-induced plasma and cavitation bubble in water

Ziwen Jia et al.

Summary: In this study, the early dynamics of laser-induced plasma and cavitation bubble were investigated using fast imaging and shadowgraph techniques. It was found that the initial plasma forms at the laser focal point and then expands towards the incident laser. The plasma exhibits good repeatability during the laser pulse but undergoes severe fluctuations after the pulse. The bubble morphology and its evolution show consistency with the plasma morphology. The insights provided by the early bubble dynamics highlight the critical role of bubble-plasma interaction in the characterization of laser-induced plasma in water.

Characteristic of spatiotemporal evolution of hydrogen isotope in laser-induced plasma under low-pressure environment

Cong Li et al.

Summary: The analysis of hydrogen and its isotopes plays a crucial role in fuel retention detection in nuclear fusion devices and assessment of hydrogen abundance in geochemistry. Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) is a promising technique for hydrogen isotope analysis, but in low-pressure environments, the plasma plume may suffer from spatial separation of particles with different masses, leading to reduced measurement accuracy.

Dynamics of laser-induced plasma and cavitation bubble at high pressures and the impacts on underwater LIBS signals

Ziwen Jia et al.

Summary: This study investigates the temporal evolution of underwater plasma and cavitation bubble under high pressures using fast imaging and shadowgraph techniques. The results show that as the ambient pressure increases, the plasma expansion is suppressed with a stronger emission intensity, but it quenches earlier at higher pressures. The increase in pressure also has a significant impact on the bubble evolution, decreasing both the bubble maximum radius and lifetime. The study demonstrates the critical role of bubble dynamics in characterizing plasma emission at high pressures.

Pulsewidth and ambient medium effects during ultrashort-pulse laser ablation of silicon in air and water

N. A. Smirnov et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of single-shot laser pulses on silicon surfaces using 1030-nm sub (0.3 ps) and pico-picosecond (10 ps) pulses in air and water environments. It was found that fast energy transport via electron-hole plasma diffusion caused the ablation craters to extend over the focal spot in air. The study also revealed the fluence-dependent material removal during wet ablation by 10-ps laser pulses.

How the Physicochemical Properties of the Bulk Material Affect the Ablation Crater Profile, Mass Balance, and Bubble Dynamics During Single-Pulse, Nanosecond Laser Ablation in Water

Mark-Robert Kalus et al.

Summary: Understanding the key steps in laser-based colloidal synthesis is crucial for optimizing the ablation process for nanoparticle output and nanomaterial design. Studies typically focus on ablation efficiency and nanoparticle properties under prolonged ablation conditions with repetition rate lasers. Limitations in linking single-pulse and multiple-pulse ablation due to gas formation cross-effects are discussed, along with the concept of cavitation bubble growth related to the oxidation sensitivity of ablated materials.

Review of spatiotemporal analysis of laser-induced plasma in gases

Christian G. Parigger

Summary: This study reviews spatially and temporally resolved measurements of laser-plasma emission spectra of hydrogen, cyanide, and hydroxyl, focusing on phenomena associated with pulsed radiation and peak irradiance. Integral inversion techniques are used for inferences on spatial distribution, favored for symmetric or near-symmetric excitation. The study also discusses the applicability of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy for analysis of astrophysical plasma, such as white dwarfs.

Comparison between laser induced plasmas in gas and in liquid

M. Dell'Aglio et al.

Summary: The research investigates the evolution of Laser Induced Plasma (LIP) in liquid by comparing it with LIP in air, showing that plasma in water remains in a high-density state while plasma in air quickly expands to an ideal state. These differences allow for a wide range of applications for LIP in liquid and gas.
