N-doped C-coated MoO2/ZnIn2S4 heterojunction for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production

Wei Dong et al.

Summary: Designing a heterojunction photocatalyst to improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated electrons and holes is crucial for enhancing hydrogen production efficiency. In this study, we propose a rational design to grow ZnIn2S4 on Mo-MOF-derived N-doped C-coated MoO2 (MOZIS), which exhibits excellent photocatalytic hydrogen production using triethanolamine as a sacrificial agent. The introduction of N-doped C enhances the electron transport efficiency between MoO2 and ZnIn2S4. The optimized nanocomposites of MOZIS demonstrate efficient separation and transfer of photocatalytic charges due to the intimate contact interface and favorable energy band structure between MoO2 and ZnIn2S4. The high hydrogen production efficiency of 10.89 mmol·g(-1) (4 h) under visible light is achieved. MOF-derived N-doped C-coated MoO2 represents an effective strategy to enhance the photocatalytic hydrogen production efficiency of ZnIn2S4.

Electronic properties and photocatalytic water splitting with high solar-to-hydrogen efficiency in a hBNC/Janus WSSe heterojunction: First-principles calculations

Guo Lin Qian et al.

Summary: Design and exploration of a photocatalyst with an interfacial electric field for hydrogen production from water splitting is essential. Through first-principles calculations, the electronic properties of the hBN/Janus WSSe heterojunction are analyzed, revealing the deficiency in efficiency due to energy band conformational defects. By doping C=C bonds on the monolayer hBN, the band gap can be adjusted, resulting in a transition from type-I band alignment to type-II band alignment through different contracting methods between hBNC and Janus WSSe. The hBNC/SWSe heterojunction shows higher reduction and oxidation reaction overpotentials, high quantum efficiency, and solar hydrogen production efficiency, making it a promising candidate for visible-light-driven water splitting.

High-Throughput Computational Screening of Two-Dimensional Semiconductors

Vei Wang et al.

Summary: Two-dimensional materials have attracted attention for their unique physical properties and their ability to meet the demands of nanoscale devices. In this study, we conducted high-throughput calculations and screening to identify 73 direct-gap and 183 indirect-gap 2D nonmagnetic semiconductors based on criteria for thermodynamic, mechanical, dynamic, and thermal stabilities, as well as conductivity type. A database of these materials was created, providing a platform for computational modeling and design of new 2D semiconductors and heterostructures in applications such as photocatalysis and nanoscale devices. Additionally, a linear fitting model was proposed to accurately evaluate band gap, ionization energy, and electron affinity of 2D semiconductors with lower computational cost compared to hybrid DFT methods.

Significant enhancement of lattice thermal conductivity of monolayer AlN under bi-axial strain: a first principles study

Anibrata Banerjee et al.

Summary: Using ab initio calculations, we investigated the effects of bi-axial strain and finite size on the lattice thermal conductivity of monolayer AlN. We found that bi-axial strain can significantly increase the thermal conductivity of monolayer AlN, unlike in other 2D materials. Our study revealed that the increase in thermal conductivity with strain is due to the reduction of phonon anharmonicity. This research provides a detailed analysis of the thermal transport properties of monolayer AlN, highlighting its importance in thermal management devices.
