Review of Electric Vehicle Charger Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities, Potential Impacts, and Defenses

Jay Johnson et al.

Summary: The global growth of electric vehicles has led to the installation of more electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), which has exposed vulnerabilities in these devices and their associated cloud services. These vulnerabilities could potentially allow attackers to gain control and cause disruptions ranging from localized to national scale. However, there are established cybersecurity best practices that can be applied to secure EVSE equipment.

Development and Validation of V2G Technology for Electric Vehicle Chargers Using Combo CCS Type 2 Connector Standards

Shahid Jaman et al.

Summary: Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, a potential solution for auxiliary power system services, currently relies on DC chargers using the CHAdeMO connector. However, in Europe, high-power DC charging prefers the Combined Charging Service (CCS) Type 2. This study presents the development of a V2G testing system with a Combo CCS Type 2 charger using the ISO 15118-2 protocol, and validates its technical feasibility with a BOSCH passenger car. The V2G feature is characterized and a data-driven V2G charger simulation model is developed, emphasizing the importance of appropriate calibration and understanding for delivering standard-compliant grid control services using V2G technology. The simulation results are compared with real hardware results for error, noise level, and data magnitude accuracy.
