Stress promotes RNA G-quadruplex folding in human cells

Summary: The folding of G-rich nucleic acids into G-quadruplex (G4) structures is regulated under stress in human cells. Through high-throughput DMS probing, hundreds of stress-induced rG4 structures were identified in mRNA 3'-untranslated regions, and their role in enhancing mRNA stability was validated. The reversible folding of rG4 structures upon stress removal suggests their dynamic regulation and global impact on mRNA stability and cellular stress response.
