Determination of 301 pesticide residues in tropical fruits imported to Turkey using LC-MS/MS and GC-MS

Tarik Balkan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to detect pesticide residues in tropical fruits using QuEChERS method and LC-MS/MS and GC-MS. Matrix effects were observed in banana, blueberry, lime, mango, and pineapple. Various tropical fruits imported from different countries were collected and analyzed, and pesticide residues were found in some fruits but below EU-MRLs. The most commonly detected pesticide was imazalil sulfate.

Evaluation of imazalil dissipation/migration in postharvest papaya using low-temperature partition extraction and GC-MS analysis

Jessika Faeda de Freitas et al.

Summary: Methods involving solid-liquid extraction with low-temperature partition and analysis by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry were used to investigate the dissipation and migration of imazalil residues in papaya. After 23 days, about 70% of the imazalil had dissipated, with most of the remaining residue found in the skin. However, a small amount migrated into the pulp and exceeded the maximum residue levels allowed by regulatory agencies.

Preparing monoclonal antibodies and developing immunochromatographic assay strips for the determination of propamocarb levels

Jie Liu et al.

Summary: Monoclonal antibodies against pmpamocarb were prepared and a lateral flow immunoassay strip was developed for the detection of propamocarb in tomato and cucumber samples. The immunoassay strip showed a visible limit of detection for propamocarb in food samples and provided accurate quantitative analysis with good recovery rates. These results demonstrate the suitability of the immunoassay strip for detecting propamocarb in fruits and vegetables.

Alternative Management Approaches of Citrus Diseases Caused by Penicillium digitatum (Green Mold) and Penicillium italicum (Blue Mold)

Usha K. Bhatta

Summary: This review comprehensively describes alternative methods for the control of P. digitatum and P. italicum, including the use of antagonistic micro-organisms, plant extracts and essential oils, biofungicides, chitosan-based coatings, heat treatments, irradiations, food additives, and synthetic elicitors. Integrating multiple approaches and treatments can produce an additive or synergistic effect on disease control in post-harvest citrus.

Imazalil and its metabolite imazalil-M caused developmental toxicity in zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos via cell apoptosis mediated by metabolic disorders

Shiran Huang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the developmental toxicity of the fungicide IMZ and its metabolite IMZ-M on zebrafish embryos and investigated the potential mechanisms. The results showed that IMZ and IMZ-M caused developmental toxicity in zebrafish embryos, leading to decreased heart rate, hatching inhibition, and pericardial cyst. The study also revealed cell apoptosis and metabolic disorder as potential mechanisms of toxicity.

Nanobody-based fluorescent immunoassay using carbon dots anchored cobalt oxyhydroxide composite for the sensitive detection of fenitrothion

Lin Luo et al.

Summary: A nanobody-alkaline phosphatase fusion protein-based fluorescent ELISA method was developed for highly sensitive detection of fenitrothion (FN) residue in food. The detection limit of this method was 0.14 ng mL-1, which is 25-fold lower than that of conventional colorimetric ELISAs.

Development of a gold nanoparticle-based lateral flow immunoassay for the detection of pyridaben

Jie Liu et al.

Summary: A novel hapten of pyridaben was designed and used in the development of a monoclonal antibody for the sensitive detection of pyridaben. The lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) method showed good sensitivity in detecting pyridaben in cucumber and apple samples, with results comparable to other detection methods. This study demonstrates that LFIA is a reliable, portable, and high-throughput method for on-site detection of pyridaben in vegetables and fruits.

Monitoring the behavior of imazalil and its metabolite in grapes, apples, and the processing of fruit wine at enantiomeric level

Runan Li et al.

Summary: Imazalil is widely used in agriculture and may pose a threat to food safety. This study investigated the fate of imazalil and its main metabolite, imazalil-M, in field grapes and apples, as well as in the processing of fruit wine at the enantiomeric level. The results showed that the wine-making process could reduce residues of imazalil and imazalil-M in grapes and apples, and no enantioselectivity was observed during the processing of fruit wine.

LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS analysis of pesticide residues in Ecuadorian and Filipino Cavendish bananas imported into Saudi Arabia

Mohammed Almutairi et al.

Summary: The study found pesticide residues in bananas imported from Ecuador and the Philippines to Saudi Arabia, but they did not pose a threat to food safety in Saudi Arabia. The ban on carbendazim in Ecuador while it is allowed in the Philippines highlights a lack of consensus on pesticide usage between exporting and importing countries, posing potential implications for trade and food safety.
