Detection of walnut oil adulterated with high-linoleic acid vegetable oils using triacylglycerol pseudotargeted method based on SFC-QTOF-MS

Jing -Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: Authentication of walnut oil is challenging due to adulteration with high-linoleic acid vegetable oils. A rapid and sensitive scanning method based on SFC-QTOF-MS was established to profile potential triacylglycerols in adulterated samples. Models based on the triacylglycerol profiles accurately predicted adulteration levels as low as 5% and hold promise for oil authentication.

Chlorogenic Acid Ameliorates High-Fat and High-Fructose Diet- Induced Cognitive Impairment via Mediating the Microbiota-Gut- Brain Axis

Shu Qing Zhang et al.

Summary: Chlorogenic acid (CGA) improves cognition by modulating gut microbiota and metabolite composition. CGA not only prevents obesity, insulin resistance, and cognitive-behavioral disturbances induced by a high-fat and high-fructose diet, but also enhances the expression of neuroactive genes and reduces inflammation.

Protective effects of camellia and olive oils against cognitive impairment via gut microbiota-brain communication in rats

Sheng-Yi Chen et al.

Summary: This study compared the neuroprotective effects of oleic acid-rich camellia oil and olive oil in rats with AlCl3-induced mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The results showed that camellia oil administration improved learning and memory capacities better than olive oil treatment. In addition, both oils reduced oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokines. The study suggests that camellia oil may have a beneficial effect on MCI protection and improvement through gut microbiota-brain communication.

The China Alzheimer Report 2022

Rujing Ren et al.

Summary: China's aging population and the increasing prevalence of neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, have led to an urgent need for healthcare resources to support the affected individuals and their families. This report provides an overview of the epidemiological trends, economic burden, clinical diagnosis and treatment status, and available public health resources for these diseases in China. It also highlights the public health impact of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, including prevalence, mortality, costs, and the overall effect on caregivers and society. Furthermore, it offers technical guidance and support for prevention and treatment, and emphasizes the importance of international exchange and cooperation in addressing this issue.

Advances in EPA-GPLs: Structural features, mechanisms of nutritional functions and sources

Zhangtie Wang et al.

Summary: EPA-GPLs are considered critical functional lipids in our diet, with functions that improve membrane fluidity, oxidative stress, and metabolic signaling pathways, showing promising roles in health. These mechanisms contribute to various nutritional functions of EPA-GPLs, including improvement in brain functions, visual development, nervous system development, and regulation of blood lipids. Additionally, research trends may focus on protecting EPA-GPLs from oxidation, intake and synthesis, and interactions with other substances for better application in health. Moreover, studying the differences between EPA and DHA could be valuable.
