Effect of interfacial kinetics on the settling of a drop in a viscous medium

Sayali N. Jadhav et al.

Summary: In this study, the settling of a drop in a quiescent viscous medium is analyzed to characterize interfacial phenomena in multiphase emulsions. The results show that stresses originating from interfacial rheology tend to decrease the settling velocity and make the surfactant concentration uniform across the surface. Furthermore, the settling velocity is found to be independent of the choice of free-energy isotherms and the extent of surfactant packing when variable diffusivity is correctly accounted for.

Migration and Spreading of Droplets across a Fluid-Fluid Interface in Microfluidic Coflow

Shamik Hazra et al.

Summary: This study investigates the migration and spreading of droplets in high interfacial tension interfaces under microfluidic confinements. It is found that the contact between droplets and the co-flow interface is influenced by the confinement ratio and the capillary numbers of the co-flowing streams. The study also reveals the phenomena of droplet migration and spreading at the interface, and analyzes the time evolution process of droplet spreading.

Effect of surfactant on the settling of a drop towards a wall

Sayali N. Jadhav et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of surfactants on drop settling dynamics, finding that surfactants can alter the settling speed and deformation of the drops, with the most significant effects near the solid wall.

Can small air bubbles probe very low frother concentration faster?

Piotr Pawliszak et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of bubble size on the detection of two different flotation frothers with different adsorption kinetics. Smaller air bubbles are used for the experiment, and a new method for bubble generation is adopted. By ensuring consistent bubble size, the rise velocity of bubbles in solutions of various frothers can be compared, with any changes in speed attributed to variations in hydrodynamic drag force. Adsorption isotherms and interfacial tension measurements are used to determine the interfacial behavior of the frothers.

Hydrodynamics of immiscible binary fluids with viscosity contrast: a multiparticle collision dynamics approach

Zihan Tan et al.

Summary: This study introduces a MPC implementation for layered immiscible fluids, exhibiting accurate flow profile simulations and shear stress functions. Additionally, the model is capable of determining the hydrodynamic mobilities of colloidal spheres near fluid-fluid interfaces. While computationally efficient, the model may not reproduce all hydrodynamic features of an ideally flat interface between immiscible fluids.
