Insight into the degradation of different classes of dyes by advanced oxidation processes; a detailed review

Aqsa Iqbal et al.

Summary: Dyes are used as coloring agents in the form of natural and synthetic compounds and their discharge in the environment by the textile and dye industries is causing hazards. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) such as Fenton, photo-Fenton, ozone treatment, photocatalytic degradation, UV photolysis, Wet air oxidation (WAO), and electrochemical oxidation are effective methods for dye degradation. These AOPs also show potential for improving degradation efficiency. The current study provides a comprehensive understanding of the mechanistic properties of AOPs and their efficacy in dye degradation.

Electrochemical oxidation of azo dyes in water: a review

Abdulgalim B. B. Isaev et al.

Summary: Water pollution from azo dyes is a global issue due to their carcinogenic and mutagenic effects. To address this, advanced methods such as electrochemical oxidation have been developed for their removal from wastewater. This review covers various electrochemical processes including anodic oxidation, electro-Fenton, photo-electro-Fenton, and solar photo-electro-Fenton, discussing their design parameters and the toxic degradation by-products, primarily low molecular weight carboxylic acids.

Optimization of electrochemical activation of persulfate by BDD electrodes for rapid removal of sulfamethazine

Mohamed Nashat et al.

Summary: In this study, boron-doped diamond electrodes were used for the removal of sulfamethazine from water through electrochemical activation of persulfate. The experimental results showed rapid degradation of SMZ even at high initial concentrations under optimized conditions. The oxidation mechanism and pathway were explored, with the EO/BDD-PS system exhibiting faster degradation compared to other processes.

A critical review on the treatment of dye-containing wastewater: Ecotoxicological and health concerns of textile dyes and possible remediation approaches for environmental safety

Rania Al-Tohamy et al.

Summary: The synthetic dyes used in the textile industry cause pollution in water bodies, which has negative consequences on the environment and human health. It is important to effectively treat dye-containing wastewater using eco-friendly technologies to reduce contamination of aquatic habitats and natural water resources. This review discusses the effects of textile dyes on water bodies, aquatic flora, and human health, and compares various technologies for removing dyes from textile wastewater.

The role of dye's structure on the degradation rate during indirect anodic oxidation

Gabriela Kuchtova et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the potential of decolorization of effluents containing different azo and aminoantrachinone dyes. The results showed that the decolorization rate was higher in the presence of NaCl compared to Na2SO4, and the structure of the dye directly influenced the velocity of the decolorization process. Additionally, boron-doped diamond anode showed better performance in the presence of sulfates.
