Sensitivity enhancement in capillary electrophoresis and their applications for analyses of pharmaceutical and related biochemical substances

L. Suntornsuk et al.

Summary: This article reviews sensitivity enhancement methods in capillary electrophoresis (CE) and their applications in pharmaceutical and related biochemical substance analyses. The introduction and principle of CE are described in the first two parts, while the main part focuses on strategies for sensitivity improvement, including detector and capillary technologies and preconcentration techniques. The applications of these techniques for pharmaceutical and biomedical substance analyses during the years 2018-2021 are surveyed.

LVSEP Analysis of Phosphopeptides in Dynamically PVP-Coated Capillaries and Microchannels

Fumihiko Kitagawa et al.

Summary: In this study, highly sensitive analyses of phosphopeptides were achieved in capillary electrophoresis (CE) and microchip electrophoresis (MCE) by using large-volume sample stacking with an electroosmotic flow pump (LVSEP) in dynamically poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP)-coated capillaries to suppress the electroosmotic flow. Good enrichments with sensitive enhancement factors (SEF) of 260 and 400 were obtained in CE and MCE, respectively, by using 0.2% PVP in 20 mM HEPES buffer (pH 9.0) in LVSEP.

Recent Applications of Dynamic On-Line Sample Preconcentration Techniques in Capillary Electrophoresis

Fumihiko Kitagawa et al.

Summary: This review highlights recent applications of on-line sample preconcentration techniques in capillary electrophoresis (CE) from 2019 to 2021. Various preconcentration techniques based on the analyte velocity change in two or three discontinuous solutions system including field-amplified sample stacking, transient isotachophoresis, pH-mediated stacking, sweeping, and their modified and combined techniques have been employed to enrich and separate biological, environmental, food samples, and so on, in CE. More than 60 published research articles collected from Scopus databases described the dynamic on-line sample preconcentration techniques. This review provides comprehensive tables listing the applications of the on-line sample preconcentration techniques.
