Urszula Luzarowska et al.

Summary: Plant lipids are important as alternative sources of carbon and energy when sugars or starch are limited. The study found that natural allelic variation at the KCS4 gene determines the differential accumulation of polyunsaturated triacylglycerols under stress. KCS4 is a functional enzyme involved in VLCFA synthesis and its allelic mutants and overexpression revealed its differential role in various processes related to lipid metabolism.

Characterization of novel loci controlling seed oil content in Brassica napus by marker metabolite-based multi-omics analysis

Long Li et al.

Summary: By utilizing widely targeted metabolomics analysis, this study identified marker metabolites associated with seed oil content in a natural population of B. napus inbred lines. The genetic basis of this agronomic trait was dissected through metabolite genome-wide association study and metabolite transcriptome-wide association study, and a triple relationship network was constructed. Candidate genes that regulate flavonoid metabolism were validated to significantly impact seed oil content in B. napus.

Comparison of Single-Trait and Multi-Trait Genome-Wide Association Models and Inclusion of Correlated Traits in the Dissection of the Genetic Architecture of a Complex Trait in a Breeding Program

Lance F. Merrick et al.

Summary: This study aimed to dissect the genetic architecture of seedling emergence in wheat using one multi-trait genome-wide association study (MT-GWAS) and three single-trait GWAS (ST-GWAS) models. The ST-GWAS models identified 107 significant markers across 19 chromosomes, while the MT-GWAS identified 82 significant markers across 14 chromosomes. The FarmCPU and BLINK models were able to identify both small effect markers and large effect markers on chromosome 5A.

Single trait versus principal component based association analysis for flowering related traits in pigeonpea

Kuldeep Kumar et al.

Summary: This study used a genome-wide association strategy to discover the genes that regulate flowering time in pigeonpea. The results revealed a set of 22 SNPs associated with flowering time, some of which are located near genes involved in auxin signaling pathways. The study also showed that principal component analysis is a more robust method for identifying genes in GWAS, and FarmCPU is a better choice for controlling false positive and negative associations.

Comparative proteomic analysis reveals that the Heterosis of two maize hybrids is related to enhancement of stress response and photosynthesis respectively

Daoping Wang et al.

Summary: Proteomic analysis indicated that although both maize hybrids were more similar to their female parents at the proteome level, the biological basis of heterosis differs between the two hybrids. The excellent agronomic traits of hybrid ZD808 are mainly associated with high expression levels of proteins related to stress responses and metabolic functions, while the traits of ZD909 are mainly associated with high expressed proteins related to photosynthesis.
