Ronaldo Rodrigues de Sousa et al.

Summary: The potential of palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) as a raw material for butyl esters synthesis using immobilized lipases has been explored. A simplified tool called Substrate-Enzyme Relation (SER) was used to optimize the reaction parameters and achieve high conversions. Experimental assays revealed that using biocatalysts loading lower than 2.0% and less than 10% of n-butanol stoichiometric excess, the SER range of -42 to -12 achieved maximum conversions higher than 90%.

Nanoparticles from silk fibroin and Amazon oils: Potential larvicidal activity and oviposition deterrence against Aedes aegypti

Victor H. S. Marinho et al.

Summary: This study presents the preparation of silk fibroin nanoparticles using esters derived from oils of two Amazonian plant species. The nanoparticles showed excellent physicochemical properties and activity against Aedes aegypti larvae. The nanoparticles demonstrated slow and controlled release, resulting in high mortality rate and inhibition of oviposition in the mosquitoes. Moreover, the nanoparticles did not exhibit significant teratogenic effects on zebrafish embryos. The formation of butyl ester nanoparticles in silk fibroin could be a potentially effective and eco-friendly approach for Ae. aegypti larvae control.
