Sequencing and Characterization of M. morganii Strain UM869: A Comprehensive Comparative Genomic Analysis of Virulence, Antibiotic Resistance, and Functional Pathways

Dibyajyoti Uttameswar Behera et al.

Summary: This study investigated the virulence factors, resistance mechanisms, functional pathways, and comparative genomic analysis of M. morganii strain UM869 with other available genomes. The results showed that UM869 harbored multiple virulence factors and antibiotic resistance genes. Comparison with other genomes revealed high genetic similarity and their emerging pathogenicity and resistance in Asian countries.

Mutations in two component system (PhoPQ and PmrAB) in colistin resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae from North Indian tertiary care hospital

Pushpa Kumari Nirwan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular basis of colistin resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae and its clonal transmission in a North Indian tertiary care hospital. Results indicated that colistin resistance was mainly attributed to mutations in PhoPQ and PmrAB TCS genes, with different sequence types sharing a common ancestor and showing clonal transmission patterns. These findings will contribute to the formulation of effective strategies for infection prevention and antimicrobial development.

Polymyxins, the last-resort antibiotics: Mode of action, resistance emergence, and potential solutions

Saswat S. Mohapatra et al.

Summary: Infections caused by multi-drug resistant bacterial pathogens are a major global health concern, with the need for new treatment methods. Polymyxins are considered the last-resort antibiotics, but their toxicity limits their use. Recent modifications in chemical structure and improved dosing regimens have shown promise in enhancing clinical outcomes.
