Hot deformation behaviors and dynamic softening mechanisms of 7Mo super-austenitic stainless steel with high stacking fault energy

Shiguang Xu et al.

Summary: The hot deformation behaviors and dynamic softening mechanisms of 7Mo super-austenitic stainless steel were studied. The optimal hot deformation conditions were found to be in the temperature and strain rate ranges of 1030-1200 degrees Celsius and 0.001-0.07 s-1, and 1050-1200 degrees Celsius and 10 s-1, respectively. The high stacking fault energy resulted in planar gliding of dislocations as the main deformation mechanism. Dynamic recovery and continuous dynamic recrystallization played dominant roles in the dynamic softening mechanism. Microbands and sigma precipitates further promoted continuous dynamic recrystallization.

Influences of carbon concentration on microstructure and tensile properties of Fe-18Mn-9Cr-2Al-xC steels

Young-Bum Chun

Summary: Different carbon concentrations were added to Fe-18Mn-9Cr-2Al steels to investigate their microstructures and tensile properties. The carbon-added steels exhibited extensive work-hardening and ductility at room temperature, while dynamic recrystallization occurred partially at grain boundaries at higher temperatures. The addition of chromium did not significantly affect the plasticity of the steels, suggesting the potential for developing Cr-bearing TWIP steels with corrosion resistance and excellent formability.

Effects of heat treatment before extrusion on dynamic recrystallization behavior, texture and mechanical properties of as-extruded Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Zr alloy

Ming Li et al.

Summary: The effects of heat treatment on the dynamic recrystallization behavior, texture, and mechanical properties of a magnesium alloy were investigated. It was found that heat treatment can eliminate microstructures and increase the solid solubility, leading to the occurrence of continuous dynamic recrystallization and dynamic precipitation, which improve the alloy's performance.

Dynamic recovery and recrystallization mechanisms in secondary B2 phase and austenite matrix during hot deformation of Fe-Mn-Al-C-(Ni) based austenitic low-density steels

Bidyapati Mishra et al.

Summary: In this study, two different austenitic low-density steels were produced and their hot deformation behavior was studied. The results showed that the low-density steels exhibited similar stress exponent values, but the presence of B2 phase increased the activation energy of deformation. The effect of B2 phase on flow behavior and microstructure evolution was more pronounced at low test temperatures.

Tailoring of the microstructure and mechanical properties of the flow formed aluminum alloy sheet

P. F. Gao et al.

Summary: Tube flow forming followed by flattening is an effective method for producing ultra-wide sheets, but the resulting sheet suffers from work hardening and poor plasticity. Two types of heat treatments, recrystallization annealing and solution quenching, were conducted on flow formed 2219 aluminum alloy sheet to enhance its plastic formability. Recrystallization annealing resulted in weak {100}//RD-CD texture and higher plasticity, while solution quenching produced larger and more uniform grain sizes, leading to improved plasticity compared to recrystallization annealing.

Corrosion Behavior of High-Mn Austenitic Fe-Mn-Al-Cr-C Steels in NaCl and NaOH Solutions

Juan Bosch et al.

Summary: The study investigated the corrosion behavior of austenitic Fe-Mn-Al-Cr-C TWIP and MBIP steels with different alloying elements, and found pitting as the dominant corrosion mechanism in high-Mn TWIP steels. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed corrosion products and a protective Al2O3 passive film was observed. The MBIP steel exhibited the highest corrosion susceptibility in both chloride and alkaline solutions.

Corrosion Mechanisms of High-Mn Twinning-Induced Plasticity (TWIP) Steels: A Critical Review

David M. Bastidas et al.

Summary: TWIP steels have higher strength and ductility compared to conventional steels, making them a potential material of interest for automotive applications. However, more research is needed on their corrosion resistance and performance in service. Understanding corrosion behavior and mechanisms is crucial for determining the optimal protection and cost reduction in automotive applications.
