Identification of a Four-Gene Signature Associated with the Prognosis Prediction of Lung Adenocarcinoma Based on Integrated Bioinformatics Analysis

Yuan Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, we constructed a gene co-expression network and used LASSO-Cox regression analysis to identify four hub genes associated with prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). A prognostic model based on these genes was established and validated in multiple datasets. These hub genes were found to be suppressor factors of LUAD and their high expression was associated with a lower risk of death.

Inhibition of carbonic anhydrases IX/XII by SLC-0111 boosts cisplatin effects in hampering head and neck squamous carcinoma cell growth and invasion

Annachiara Sarnella et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that using the CA IX/XII specific inhibitor SLC-0111 can enhance the sensitivity of HNSCC to cisplatin, reducing proliferation, migration, and invasion of cells. Furthermore, combination therapy can inhibit the activation of cell signaling pathways such as STAT3, AKT, ERK, and EMT program, while inducing apoptosis in cancer cells.

Development and validation of a novel hypoxia-related signature for prognostic and immunogenic evaluation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

Su-Ran Li et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a risk score model to evaluate the prognosis and guide treatment for HNSCC patients. The results showed that a scoring system based on SRPX, PGK1, STG1, HS3ST1, CDKN1B, and HK1 can effectively predict the overall prognosis of HNSCC patients, and the scoring system is an independent predictor for HNSCC. Further analysis and experiments demonstrated that this signature could serve as a prospective candidate for the prognostic evaluation of HNSCC patients.

Tumor microenvironment-related gene selenium-binding protein 1 (SELENBP1) is associated with immunotherapy efficacy and survival in colorectal cancer

Cheng Zhu et al.

Summary: This study found that SELENBP1 expression is low in colorectal cancer (CRC) and is associated with poor prognosis. Decreased expression of SELENBP1 is associated with DNA methylation and mutation. Furthermore, SELENBP1 expression influences tumor immune infiltration, prognosis, and the sensitivity of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Hypoxia-induced lncRNA STEAP3-AS1 activates Wnt/beta-catenin signaling to promote colorectal cancer progression by preventing m(6)A-mediated degradation of STEAP3 mRNA

Li Zhou et al.

Summary: This study identified a hypoxia-induced lncRNA called STEAP3-AS1, which was highly expressed in CRC tissues and correlated with poor prognosis. STEAP3-AS1 interacted with YTHDF2 to protect STEAP3 mRNA from degradation, leading to increased expression of STEAP3 protein and promoting CRC proliferation and metastasis.

Construction and verification of a novel hypoxia-related lncRNA signature related with survival outcomes and immune microenvironment of bladder urothelial carcinoma by weighted gene co-expression network analysis

Dawei Cai et al.

Summary: In this study, a hypoxia-related long non-coding RNA (HRlncRNA) signature was established to predict clinical outcomes and immunological microenvironment in patients with bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA). The signature comprised of 13 lncRNAs that were implicated in predicting patient prognosis. The high-risk group of BLCA patients, identified based on a risk score, showed poorer prognosis compared to the low-risk group. This signature demonstrated superior predictive ability compared to other strategies.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
