Methylene blue intercalated vanadium oxide with synergistic energy storage mechanism for highly efficient aqueous zinc ion batteries

Nature-inspired interfacial engineering for highly stable Zn metal anodes

Summary: Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) are a promising option for large-scale energy storage applications due to their low cost, eco-friendliness, and high safety. However, they currently face challenges such as poor cycling stability caused by dendrite growth, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution at the electrolyte/anode interface. In this study, humic acid (HA), a natural soil ingredient, is applied to the zinc surface to stabilize the anode/electrolyte interface. Theoretical calculations and electrochemical analyses show that HA improves the Zn deposition kinetics, suppresses corrosion and hydrogen evolution, and enhances the overall performance of ZIBs. This research provides valuable insights for engineering electrolyte/electrode interfaces and suggests the potential of leveraging natural materials and mechanisms for more sustainable batteries.

Defect regulation in bimetallic oxide cathodes for significantly improving the performance of flexible aqueous Zn-ion batteries

Summary: By reasonable structural design, a spherical glucose-derived carbon-regulated defect state Zn3V3O8 bimetallic oxide (CS@ZVO) cathode was synthesized. This design prevents the structural collapse during the cycle process, leading to a significant improvement in the cycle stability of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). The introduction of glucose-derived carbon can shift the valence state of vanadium in the ZVO bimetallic oxide cathode towards reduction, thereby significantly improving its zinc-ion storage capacity. The resulting CS@ZVO cathode exhibits a high discharge capacity of 154 mAh g(-1) at 1 A g(-1) after 100 cycles and a stable lifespan of 2000 cycles at 5 A g(-1).

Oxygen-deficient ammonium vanadate for flexible aqueous zinc batteries with high energy density and rate capability at-30 °C

Summary: The oxygen-deficient NH4V4O10-x·nH(2)O (NVOH) microspheres are synthesized and used as cathodes for aqueous zinc batteries (AZBs), demonstrating a high energy density, fast Zn2+ diffusion, and excellent electrochemical performance over a wide temperature range. The NVOH shows a capacity retention of 100% after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g(-1) and around 94% after 2600 cycles at 2 A g(-1) and -30 degrees C. Investigation into the mechanism of the process reveals that the surface capacitive behaviors contribute dominantly to the capacity, while diffusion-controlled capacity decay causes the capacity attenuation. Flexible AZBs can power portable electronics steadily under different bending states, showing great potential for wide-temperature wearable devices.

Defect engineering on V2O3 cathode for long-cycling aqueous zinc metal batteries
