Diagnostic accuracy of dermoscopy for onychomycosis: A systematic review

Summary: This study identified the characteristic dermoscopic features of onychomycosis, including spikes, jagged edges, subungual hyperkeratosis, ruins appearance, and longitudinal striae. Recognizing these features can assist clinicians in making bedside diagnoses of onychomycosis. Fungal melanonychia also displayed distinct dermoscopic features, such as multicolor pigmentation and longitudinal white or yellow streaks.

Dermatophytic melanonychia: A case series of an increasing disease

Summary: Melanonychia refers to brown-black colour pigmentation in the nail plate, with main causes being subungual haematoma and pigmented onychomycosis. Fungal melanonychia can be differentiated from other conditions through clinical and dermoscopic examination. This study aims to increase awareness of dermatophytic melanonychia and highlights the importance of diagnostic tools such as KOH examination and dermoscopy.
