Antioxidant and Pulmonary Protective Potential of Fraxinus xanthoxyloides Bark Extract against CCl4-Induced Toxicity in Rats

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and pulmonary protective potential of Fraxinus xanthoxyloides bark extract and its fractions. The highest total phenolics, flavonoids, and terpenoids contents were found in the methanol bark extract, ethyl acetate fraction, and chloroform fraction, respectively. The most potent antioxidant capacity was shown by the methanol bark extract and ethyl acetate fraction. The administration of carbon tetrachloride induced oxidative stress and lung tissue damage, but treatment with the bark extract restored these parameters to normal levels and protected the lung tissues.

Chemical composition, seasonal variation and antiaging activities of essential oil from Callistemon subulatus leaves growing in Egypt

Summary: The essential oils of Callistemon subulatus leaves were analyzed, and eucalyptol was found to be the main component in all seasons. The winter oil showed the highest yield and exhibited strong inhibitory activity against elastase and acetylcholinesterase. Molecular docking study revealed that eucalyptol had the best binding affinity for both enzymes. The oil could be used as a supplement for managing aging disorders.

Functional and structural outcomes and complications after pars plana vitrectomy for severe features of proliferative diabetic retinopathy in type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the functional and structural outcomes, as well as postoperative complications, of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for severe proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) in type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. The results showed that complete reattachment of the retina was achieved in a high percentage of both DM1 and DM2 groups, and the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) significantly improved in both groups after PPV. However, the improvement was more noticeable in type 2 DM patients. Postoperative structural changes were observed more often in the DM2 group and had a greater negative impact on BCVA in type 1 diabetics. Complications after PPV for PDR were rare and did not significantly affect the final functional outcomes in both groups.

Summary: Quercetin-conjugated magnetite nanoparticles (QMNPs) were successfully prepared using a biological simple nanoprecipitation approach mediated by fungus Aspergillus oryzae. In vitro studies demonstrated the inhibitory effects of QMNPs on MCF-7, HePG-2, and A459 cancer cell lines, while in vivo experiments showed their potential to sensitize breast cancer to radiotherapy. The combination of QMNPs with irradiation effectively blocked cancer cell proliferation and enhanced the therapeutic outcome in a rat model of breast cancer induced by N-methyl-N-nitrosourea, suggesting the potential of QMNPs as a targeted therapy in breast cancer.
