Measurement of prompt and nonprompt charmonium suppression in PbPb collisions at 5.02 TeV

A. M. Sirunyan et al.

Summary: In this study, the nuclear modification factors of J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are measured in PbPb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sNN=5.02TeV. The analysis is based on PbPb and pp data samples collected by CMS at the LHC in 2015. The results show that both J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons are increasingly suppressed with centrality, with a magnitude similar to the one observed at sNN=2.76TeV.

Constraining hadronization mechanisms with A+c /D0 production ratios in Pb-Pb collisions at ?sNN=5.02 TeV

S. Acharya et al.

Summary: The production of prompt A+c baryons in high-energy Pb-Pb collisions at midrapidity was measured using the ALICE detector. The results showed higher precision, better centrality differential, and lower transverse momentum compared to previous measurements. The ratio of A+c to D0 was found to be enhanced at certain transverse momentum ranges, similar to observations in the strange sector. Model calculations were compared with the data to explain charm hadron formation.

Performance of the ALICE Electromagnetic Calorimeter

S. Acharya et al.

Summary: The performance of the electromagnetic calorimeter of the ALICE experiment during its operation from 2010 to 2018 at the Large Hadron Collider is presented. The design, readout, trigger capabilities, data taking procedures, reconstruction, validation procedures, calibration methods, and derived corrections are explained in detail. The capabilities of the calorimeter to reconstruct and measure photons, light mesons, electrons, and jets are discussed, and the performance of the calorimeter is illustrated using data obtained from test beams and proton-proton collisions, compared to simulations.

Measurement of the nuclear modification factor for muons from charm and bottom hadrons in Pb plus Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector

G. Aad et al.

Summary: Heavy-flavour hadron production provides valuable information about the transport properties and microscopic structure of the quark-gluon plasma formed in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. In this study, muons from semileptonic decays of charm and bottom hadrons are measured to analyze differential yields and cross sections as a function of muon transverse momentum. The results reveal significant suppression of muons from decays of charm and bottom hadrons, with stronger effects observed for charm hadron decays.

Measurement of prompt D-s(+)-meson production and azimuthal anisotropy in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV

S. Acharya et al.

Summary: The production yield and angular anisotropy of prompt D-s(+) mesons were measured in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. It was found that the nuclear modification factor (R-AA) of D-s(+) mesons shows a hint of being larger than that of non-strange D mesons at low transverse momentum (p(T)), while at high p(T), R-AA is consistent with non-strange D mesons. The enhanced production of D-s(+) mesons compared to non-strange D mesons was observed. The azimuthal anisotropy coefficient v(2) of prompt D-s(+) mesons was measured and found to be compatible with that of non-strange D mesons.

Summary: In this study, the production of J/psi mesons in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider was measured using the ALICE detector. The fraction of non-prompt J/psi mesons was measured at different transverse momenta and rapidities, and compared with measurements from other experiments and theoretical calculations. The study also provided an estimate for the b (b) over bar pair cross section based on state-of-the-art perturbative QCD models.

Measurement of beauty production via non-prompt D0 mesons in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV

S. Acharya et al.

Summary: The production rate of non-prompt D-0 mesons was measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of root s(NN)=5.02TeV. The data indicates a significant suppression of non-prompt D-0 mesons, especially at high momentum, in the 0-10% centrality class of Pb-Pb collisions. Models suggest that this suppression is caused by the lower energy loss of beauty quarks compared to charm quarks in the quark-gluon plasma due to their larger mass.

Evidence of Mass Ordering of Charm and Bottom Quark Energy Loss in Au plus Au Collisions at RHIC

M. S. Abdallah et al.

Summary: This study investigates the energy loss of charm and bottom quarks in the strongly interacting medium created in heavy-ion collisions. The experimental results reveal that the energy loss of bottom quarks is higher than that of charm quarks. Model calculations show that the assumption of mass-dependent parton energy loss is consistent with the measured data. These observations provide evidence of mass ordering of energy loss for charm and bottom quarks when traversing through the strongly coupled medium created in heavy-ion collisions.

Measurement of beauty and charm production in pp collisions at s=5.02 TeV via non-prompt and prompt D mesons

Summary: The ALICE experiment measured the p(T)-differential production cross sections of prompt and non-prompt D mesons in proton-proton collisions, showing extended p(T) coverage and reduced total uncertainties compared to previous measurements. The results are well described by perturbative QCD calculations, and the fragmentation fraction of heavy quarks to strange mesons is found to be compatible with previous measurements at different energies and collision systems. The bb production cross section at midrapidity is consistent with previous measurements and theoretical predictions.
