Understanding the Role of Al Doping of LiCoO2 on the Mechanisms Upon Cycling up to High Voltages (?4.6 V vs Li+/Li)

Fatima-Ezzahra Er-Rami et al.

Summary: The effect of Al doping on the structure and electrochemical properties of LiCoO2 was investigated in this study. The results showed that Al doping improves the cycling stability and has a significant impact on the voltage curve profile. XRD studies revealed that Al doping delays the formation of specific phases. 7Li MAS NMR and TEM results also revealed the formation of a stable cathode electrolyte interphase layer on the surface of the Al-doped electrode material.

Anionic redox reaction and structural evolution of Ni-rich layered oxide cathode material

Shuwei Li et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively investigated the oxygen redox reaction and structural reversibility of the Ni-rich layered oxide during deep delithiation. It was found that the redox reaction is caused by cation mixing upon delithiation, and the migration of transition metals leads to the formation of the I41 structure. These findings provide insights into the origin of the oxygen redox and its impact on structural transformations.

Oxygen-redox reactions in LiCoO2 cathode without O-O bonding during charge-discharge

Enyuan Hu et al.

Summary: In the highly delithiated LiCoO2, oxygen redox occurs globally rather than forming localized dimerization. Experimental techniques like RIXS and NPDF, along with theoretical calculations, provide insights into achieving reversible deep delithiation and high energy density for LiCoO2-based electrodes.

Phosphorus-doped lithium- and manganese-rich layered oxide cathode material for fast charging lithium-ion batteries

Yuqiong Kang et al.

Summary: In this study, the LMR Li1.2Mn0.6Ni0.2O2 was modified by phosphorus (P)-doping to enhance Li+ conductivity in the bulk material, resulting in improved rate and safety performance. The introduction of P5+ doping increased the distance between crystal planes and enhanced structural stability, leading to better rate and thermal performance. First-principles calculations showed that P-doping facilitates electron transfer and forms strong covalent bonds to stabilize the material structure, while solid-state electrolyte modification further improved cycle performance and initial coulombic efficiency.
