Composition-adjustable Mo6Co6C2/Co@carbon nanocage for enhanced oxygen reduction and evolution reactions

Fangfang Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts consisting of cobalt-molybdenum-based bimetallic carbide and cobalt nanoparticles embedded N-doped carbon nanocages were synthesized. The prepared catalyst exhibits excellent activity and stability, with a low overpotential for oxygen evolution reaction and high half-wave potential for oxygen reduction reaction. Moreover, it demonstrates remarkable performance in rechargeable Zn-air batteries, including high open-circuit voltage, power density, specific capacity, and charge-discharge cycle stability. This work provides a new strategy for the integration and active-adjustment of bifunctional catalysts and their potential applications in water splitting and other catalytic reactions.

Highly dispersed 1 nm PtPd bimetallic clusters for formic acid electrooxidation through a CO-free mechanism

Zhongying Fang et al.

Summary: Direct formic acid fuel cell (DFAFC) is an important research project in clean energy field. Using Pt- and Pd-based nanoclusters as electrocatalysts is a promising strategy to improve the catalytic activity and durability of formic acid electrooxidation (FAEO). However, the controllable synthesis of sub-2 nm clusters and the catalyzing mechanism of these clusters for FAEO need to be further studied.

Novel GaPtMnP Alloy Based Anodic Electrocatalyst with Excellent Catalytic Features for Direct Ethanol Fuel Cells

Young Soo Yoon et al.

Summary: A novel nanosized GaPtMnP alloy anchored on N-doped multiwall carbon nanotubes was developed as an efficient electrocatalyst for ethanol fuel cells, exhibiting high activity and stability. It delivered mass and specific activities approximately 13- and 8-fold higher than Pt/C, with long-term stability and durability even after 3000 cycles. The fuel cell based on this catalyst showed a peak power density approximately fourfold higher than Pt/C, maintaining constant performance after multiple startup-shutdown cycles.

PtCuFe alloy nanochains: Synthesis and composition-performance relationship in methanol oxidation and hydrogen evolution reactions

Fangfang Fan et al.

Summary: This study successfully synthesized tunable PtCuFe alloy nanochains by adjusting the molar ratios of metal precursors. These nanochains exhibited higher catalytic activity and stability compared to Pt nanoparticles, PtFe nanoparticles, and PtCu nanochains. Additionally, it was found that 1D PtCuFe nanochains showed the highest activity for the methanol oxidation reaction. This work establishes a foundation for the controllable synthesis of multi-metal Pt-based nanochains/alloy catalysts and their applications in other electro-catalytic reactions.

Shuai Qu et al.

Summary: Nitrogen-doped biochar (NKBC800) was prepared by creating defective carbon in pinewood-derived biochar, resulting in larger specific surface area, higher defective degree, and more active N species. The NKBC800 exhibited excellent peroxymonosulfate activation ability and showed significantly higher removal efficiency for ciprofloxacin compared to the undoped biochar.

Deep Eutectic Solvents: A Review of Fundamentals and Applications

Benworth B. Hansen et al.

Summary: Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) exhibit significant depressions in melting points and tunable physicochemical properties, but there is still a lack of predictive understanding of their microscopic mechanisms and structure-property relationships. Research on complex hydrogen bonding is crucial for a deeper understanding and development of fundamental frameworks for DESs.
